Mar. 22--A 10-foot-high wall of debris has completely blocked an Alameda County road this morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
There is no estimated time of reopening for Palomares Road, which runs roughly south from Interstate 580 in Castro Valley to the Niles Canyon Road section of Highway 84, a CHP officer said this morning.
"They're waiting for county (public works)," the officer said. "There's a county supervisor out at the scene. They're waiting for the equipment to show up."
The slide was first reported at 3:42 a.m. It was determined impassable at 4:10 a.m., and the first of four CHP units arrived about half an hour later to shut down the roads.
Alameda County road crews have been contacted, but a dumptruck and loader have not shown up at the site yet, the CHP said.
