Amazon.com chief executive Jeff Bezos received minor head injuries when a helicopter he was riding in crashed near Alpine, Texas.

The crash occurred during a flight for Bezos to tour property March 6 in the Cathedral Mountains area of southwest Texas, about 190 miles southeast of El Paso.

Pilot Charles Bella of El Paso was flying Bezos, 38; Elizabeth Korrell, 34, of Seattle; and Ty Holland, 55, of Fort Davis, Texas, to look at property, Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson said. Korrell is Bezos' executive assistant, Dodson said.

The accident occurred as the helicopter was hit by a gust of wind on takeoff and forced into a tree. The helicopter flipped and landed in a stream.

Bezos and Korrell were treated at a local hospital for minor head injuries. Holland received a shoulder injury and Bella refused treatment, Dodson said.

Bezos, with a fortune of $2.5 billion, is the 147th richest American according to Forbes. He founded the Seattle-based Internet retailer Amazon.com.
