Mar. 23--Firefighters with the Columbia Fire Department had a busy night.
In addition to the series of fires in northwest Richland County that destroyed four homes and damaged two, a grease fire in Northeast Richland damaged four homes and a third fire caused major damage to a home south of Leesburg Road.
The grease fire caused $120,000 in damage to a home on Waverly Place Road in Northeast Richland, but also caused an estimated $1,000 in damage to the exterior of two neighboring homes and $2,000 in damage to a third, Chief Deputy Aubrey Jenkins said.
Late Wednesday night, a home in the 3800 block of Lochmore Street off Leesburg Road burned, sustaining about $100,000 in damage, Jenkins said. He said most of the single-story house was destroyed. No one was home and there were no injuries in any of the fires, he said.
Richland County authorities are investigating the fires.
