Meridian Man Leads Police on Foot Chase
By The Idaho Statesman, Boise
Mar. 24–A Meridian man is in jail after he reportedly broke into a Meridian home and tried to hide under a bed to avoid police officers during a foot chase Wednesday afternoon.
Darin Scott Brewster, 23, reportedly led officers on a foot chase at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when police attempted to make a traffic stop near 5th and East Washington in Meridian.
Officers were looking for Brewster in regard to a probation violation stemming from a rape charge out of Bannock County.
When officers attempted to detain Brewster, he allegedly took off on foot, eventually entering a house through the back door, descending to the basement and attempting to hide under a bed.
The occupant of the house did not know anyone had entered until officers knocked on the door, according to Meridian police traffic sergeant Dwight Hosford.
Once the occupant was out of the house, officers sent in a Boise police dog to find Brewster.
The dog reportedly bit Brewster, and police were able to detain him.
Brewster was transported to the Meridian St. Luke’s for treatment before being booked in the Ada County jail.
He was still in jail late Thursday.
Police charged Brewster with unlawful entry, resisting and obstructing, contempt of court and probation violation.
