6 Injured in 2 Wrecks

Mar. 24–A 29-year-old Freetown woman sustained injuries after her vehicle rear-ended another vehicle west of Seymour Wednesday morning, police say.

According to county Officer Michael E. Carother’s report, Helen Moore was treated for injuries to her right leg, head and back Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for additional treatment.

Moore’s injuries occurred after the 1996 Pontiac Sunbird she was driving on Indiana 258 at County Road 225W struck the rear end of a 2003 GMC Denali driven Gregory A Hanson of Algonquin, Ill.

Carothers said Hanson was stopped behind an Indiana Department of Transportation snowplow, which had stopped for another vehicle turning off Indiana 258 onto County Road 225W

Moore’s three children, who were riding in the back of the Sunbird, were not hurt, Carothers said. The children were all seat belted into child restraint systems, but Moore was not, he added. The Sunbird was destroyed.

Five Seymour residents also were treated for injuries, but did not require hospitalization, after they were involved in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block of South U.S. 31.

Leslie Peacock, 21, told county Officer Dustin Steward that she was driving a 1990 Ford south on U.S. 31 when her brakes locked up, causing her vehicle to leave the road and strike a mailbox and a parked Ford Ranger, owned Jody Fee of Floyds Knobs.

Peacock, Rebecca Peacock and three children were treated at the scene Jackson County Emergency Medical Service personnel and released.

Indiana State Trooper Rick Hewitt and Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer firefighters assisted with the wreck, reported at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday.
