NAPERVILLE, Ill., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DTAC, a leading wireless operator in Thailand, has deployed the Tellabs(R) 7100 optical transport system as its metro DWDM infrastructure for GSM and wireless data services. The Tellabs 7100 system will improve the efficiency of DTAC's core transmission network and lower capital costs by better utilizing its fiber capacity and offering SDH and data services on a single, converged platform.
DTAC created a mesh network using the Tellabs 7100 optical transport system and the Tellabs(R) 7110 optical transport node's network elements, which are managed by the Tellabs(R) 7192 integrated system manager at its LightPath(R) manager network management system. With these systems, DTAC is able to efficiently add/drop signals to only those nodes that require service by using the optical pass-through capabilities that eliminate back-to-back transponders and thus improves operational efficiencies and lowers capital costs.
"By taking advantage of the Tellabs 7100 system's efficiency and cost- cutting benefits, DTAC is clearly on the cutting edge," said John Cole, Tellabs' senior vice president of sales for Asia Pacific. "We've enjoyed our three-year relationship with DTAC and look forward to expanding it with a more complete portfolio of new and exciting technologies for a converged wireless network."
The Tellabs 7100 optical transport system is a next-generation, parallel- architected DWDM system that provides 32 protected wavelengths of up to 10Gbps without having to reengineer new or existing wavelengths. The Tellabs 7100 series of products enable service providers to deploy a shared infrastructure of access, metro and regional networks that also include traditional SDH/SONET TDM and emerging data and video services. All the Tellabs 7100 products are managed under the same GUI-based Tellabs 7192 integrated system manager.
