Mar. 26--Reading Community Players has announced a playwriting contest in conjunction with the Reading Railroad Museum. The troupe is seeking one-act plays to celebrate the anniversary of the museum's opening. A presentation date will be in June or July 2007. Plays must relate to the Reading Railroad's history in and around the city. It may, of course, be historical fiction. The goal is to explore the relevance of the railroad to the community -- past, present or future. The plays must have a single set with minimal props and furniture. The cast limit is eight. The play may not have had a previous production in Berks County. The running time must be between 15 and 50 minutes. A letter of intent to submit a work is required and is due by June 1, 2006. This may be a simple letter with the playwright's name, address, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc., stating that he or she will be providing a script before the end of the process. This will assist in organizing the judging committee. The letter must be sent to RCP Playwriting Committee, P.O. Box 1032, Reading, PA 19603-1032, or e-mail the letter to keldev@ptd.net.
