Symantec Security and Backup/Recovery Solutions Ship With Sony VAIO Systems Throughout Europe
Posted on: Monday, 27 March 2006, 09:00 CST
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced that Sony Europe has selected Symantec security and backup and recovery solutions to protect its customers throughout Europe. Under terms of the multi-year agreement, Norton Internet Security 2006 and Norton Ghost 10.0 will ship preinstalled on all Sony VAIO desktop and notebook computers in Europe. Customers will be able to use both products free-of-charge for 90 days. When the trial period ends, customers can then either purchase a full 12-month subscription to Norton Internet Security, a full license for Norton Ghost, or both.
"The Internet landscape is continually changing, and the recent increase in cybercrime is one of the most serious threats to emerge," said Enrique Salem, senior vice president, consumer products and solutions, for Symantec. "As a result, users must be more vigilant and proactive than ever in keeping their systems and data out of reach of such attackers, while also ensuring that their PCs and information can be easily recovered in the event of a problem. By shipping Norton Internet Security and Norton Ghost with their popular VAIO line of desktop and notebook computers, Sony is providing its European customers tools they need to keep their PCs and information secure and available."
"Sony VAIO customers demand powerful yet intuitive solutions that enable them to maximize their online experiences while mitigating potential risks," said Jun Koyama, VAIO of Europe Marketing Director. "To that end, Sony Europe is offering Symantec's award-winning security, backup, and recovery solutions with our own world-class VAIO systems to both enhance and protect our customers' investments and safeguard their valuable data."
Norton Internet Security 2006 will help keep Sony VAIO customers safe as they shop and bank online; email and instant message with family, friends, and associates; surf the Internet; or download programs, files, and music. Norton Internet Security automatically stops hackers, safeguards privacy, and protects against viruses, spam, spyware, and phishing email. It will also keep deceptive pop-up windows and banner ads off Sony VAIO users' computer screens and enable customers to protect their children from inappropriate Web sites. An intuitive dashboard provides a clear view of the protection status of the user's PC, data, and online activities, alleviating the frustration many users experience regarding system and data security. Norton Internet Security also provides a simple and easy way to look at and fix inadequate browser security settings, weak Windows passwords, risks within hidden shared folders, unneeded services, and other common vulnerabilities that expose users to threats.
Norton Ghost automatically will enable Sony VAIO users to back up and recover everything on their desktop or notebook computer -- from digital music, photos, and financial documents to applications, settings, and operating systems. Reliable, efficient, and versatile, Norton Ghost optimizes backup space, works with a wide range of media devices, and brings back entire systems in a few short steps, even when the operating system cannot be restarted. Norton Ghost automatically creates an initial backup schedule based on the computer's configuration, and automatically detects storage devices, analyzes the system, and offers "best practice" backup advice during installation. Incremental backups maximize space and save time, and backups can be triggered on key events or on demand. Backups are encrypted to maintain security.
