Kailight Photonics Breaks World Record for Longest All-Optical Signal Regeneration

Posted on: Monday, 16 February 2004, 06:00 CST

Kailight's 2R Optical Signal Regenerator Carries an Optical Signal

Over 20,000 Kilometers in a Network Loop Test

¶ Kailight Photonics, developers of all-optical signal regeneration and wavelength conversion technology, today announced that it set a world record for 2R (re-amplification & re-shaping) optical signal regeneration. In a test to prove the performance of its all-optical modules, Kailight's Tunable All-optical Signal Regeneration (TASR-4000) carried a 10Gb/s optical signal over 20,000 kilometers in a network loop test at an independent laboratory. ¶ The TASR-4000 is part of Kailight's TASR (Tunable All-optical Signal Regenerator) product line of modules that provide fast-switching, tunable, all-optical solutions designed to operate within optical regenerators, switches, routers, add/drop multiplexers and cross-connects at bit-rates ranging from 2.5Gb/s to 40Gb/s. The benchmark TASR product line also delivers bit-rate and protocol transparency while dramatically reducing network transmissions costs. ¶"This test has proven Kailight's all-optical technology exceeds the stringent performance criteria required by today's networks," said Sagie Tsadka, CEO of Kailight. "Future growth of the Optical Networks market will be driven by next-generation products like the TASR-4000, which sets a new standard in performance, flexibility and value."¶ Kailight will show the TASR-4000 at the OFC tradeshow in Los Angeles, booth #3413 the week of February 23rd, 2004. Additionally, Dr. Haim Chayet, Physics Group Leader for Kailight, will present the technology in a technical talk entitled "SOA's and Wavelength Converters" at the Th-S2 session at 2:30pm, Thursday, February 26th in room #502B.
