New Orleans-Based Entrepreneur Launches Internet Search Engine With a Charitable Mission

By Jezer-Morton, Kathryn

Chris Schultz hopes Huckabucking will someday be synonmous with Googling. The New Orleans-based entrepreneur has launched Huckabuck.com, a new Internet search engine that pairs cutting edge technology with a charitable mission. Huckabuck operates like search engines such Google, MSN and Yahoo. Google and Yahoo are most often used as a research tool while MSN is stronger for commercial-based searches and online shopping. Huckabuck culls its results from all three search engines, according to the user's settings

. It's kind of like the equalizer on your stereo, where you set the levels to the way you like your sound, said Schultz. Visitors to Huckabuck.com select a desired level of each search engine depending on what type of search they're doing. Huckabuck's revenue is generated by users clicking on the ads that appear in their search results. Some search results that come up are advertisements, and whenever users click on them, we get paid a fee, which can be anywhere from 5 cents to $30 or $40, depending on what site it's for, said Schultz. Not every user will click on an ad. But on an average basis, every single search generates revenue for us.Schultz and his partners will donate 10 percent of the site's annual revenue to a different charity each year. This year's proceeds will go to the Tipitina's Foundation and the Backstreet Cultural Museum. Huckabuck.com was conceived of after Katrina. The name is derived from huckabucks, the frozen treat New Orleanians enjoy in the summertime. Users can access www.huckabuck.com. (Copyright 2006 Dolan Media Newswires)
