Posted on: Monday, 3 April 2006, 12:00 CDT

PT Indosat Tbk, Indonesia's second largest telecommunications company today announced that is has deployed and is trialing the world's first voice SMS service on a CDMA network. Kirusa Inc. of the United States, the leader in voice SMS systems deployed on GSM networks, has integrated its Kirusa Voice SMS ("KV.SMS") solution into Indosat's StarOne CDMA network. It is the first voice SMS system in the world to support the exchange of voice SMS messages between mobile subscribers of both CDMA and GSM networks.

"Voice SMS is all about giving mobile users more ways to communicate," said Mr. Saiful Rizal, Senior Vice President, Product Development Corporate Market at Indosat. "With Kirusa, we are able to send voice SMS not only to CDMA but also to GSM subscribers even though the system has not yet been installed within our GSM network."

"KV.SMS provides a new, easy, and fun way for mobile users to send personal messages," said Damon Miller, Director of Business Development of Kirusa. "It is ideal for users whose language is not easily supported by SMS, or anyone who doesn't want to type out a message on the phone keypad. Based on our experience launching voice SMS in other markets, this service should prove extremely popular with Indosat's users."

With a population of 250 million people, Indonesia has one of fastest growing and most dynamic mobile markets in the world. Indosat expects to grow its subscriber base from over 15 million currently to 20 million by year-end 2006.

According to Mr Rizal, "Kirusa's ability to quickly deploy the solution in our network and its proven experience in scaling its solution for rapid growth were important factors in our decision to work with Kirusa."
