Tek-Tools Fortifies Leadership Position With Release of Profiler Version 4.0; Storage and Backup Management Revisited

Tek-Tools Software, the leading independent provider of resource management software solutions, announces the release of Profiler 4.0, its modular, real-time and historical resource monitoring and reporting framework for servers, storage, connectivity, applications, and backup. Tek-Tools' award winning design offers a consolidated view of heterogeneous environments, relating storage and backup resources to the applications they support. Profiler allows end users to easily collect data, monitor, and report on critical infrastructures that both automate and simplify the management of diverse environments while also reducing operational overhead and reclaiming valuable administrative cycles via automation. The Profiler Suite consists of: ServerProfiler, StorageProfiler, BackupProfiler, and AppProfiler.

ServerProfiler

ServerProfiler offers monitoring of and reporting on all major operating systems for consolidation, data classification, asset management, and alerting and notification of events. Utilizing an extensible agent architecture that separates core services from data extraction activities, Profiler version 4.0 offers a superior increase in performance while maintaining its award winning ease-of-use.

The addition of a rules-based policy engine allows for proactive management by associating specific triggers to the execution of automated actions, further enabling customers to optimize their mission-critical infrastructure. Actions can include sending a trap, capturing meta-data, or executing a predefined process. Customers can proactively manage their storage investment with move, copy, and delete functions, as well as set thresholds for alerts and actions that are designed to ensure greater utilization efficiencies and achieve service level objectives.

StorageProfiler

StorageProfiler automates file analysis, capacity planning, and performance monitoring across heterogeneous file systems. From SAN, NAS, iSCSI to direct attached storage, users can proactively monitor, alert, and act on storage utilization levels to systematically avoid outages and insure data usage policies are within compliance.

With version 4.0, Profiler extends support for EMC's Clariion/CX line of storage, based on SNIA's SMI-S standards. Support for Hitachi, HP, and IBM will follow shortly. The StorageProfiler module for EMC Clariion assists in ascertaining and reporting on data for logical and physical mapping, physical components, and operational status. Reports can be run in intervals to collect data over time in order to assist in managed space consumption on RAID Groups, to map storage volumes back to the host that they were assigned to, and to show how these volumes are load balanced across each storage processor on the array.

In addition, in the second quarter of this year, Tek-Tools will introduce a data protection module for NetApp filers, a disk-to-disk backup console that will monitor and report on NetApp's snapshot capabilities.

BackupProfiler

From a single console, BackupProfiler automates monitoring and reporting across one or multiple backup servers regardless of the backup vendor. BackupProfiler eliminates manual intervention, mitigates risk relative to business recovery, and facilitates a reliable process for meeting regulatory compliance requirements.

Version 4.0 includes new reports specifically designed to help customers address regulatory compliance requirements, as well as specific enhancements to the IBM TSM module, including the ability to report on the names of databases backed-up in addition to reporting on the database servers.

BackupProfiler 4.0 also adds a Backup Policy Auditor module for VERITAS NetBackup. The Backup Policy Auditor allows users to manage and audit backup policies and schedules created on NetBackup master servers. Users can now track missed client schedules and compare what was supposed to be backed up against what was actually backed up. Tek-Tools is developing scheduling modules for all supported backup applications to be released in the near future.

AppProfiler

AppProfiler provides a single console for reporting across business critical applications including SQL, Oracle, Exchange, and DNS. Application storage and performance reporting provides DBAs a tool with which to report growth and allocation from database to table space levels, as well as email consumption and the type and size of attachments, eliminating the risk of downtime and running out of disk space.
