New 3Dconnexion SpacePilot Advancements for UGS NX Software Offer Big Productivity Boost

3Dconnexion, a Logitech company, today announced another significant advancement in its innovative adaptive sensing technology, which allows the 3Dconnexion(R) SpacePilot(TM) 3D motion controller to detect and adapt to more than 16 environments for UGS' NX(TM) digital product development software. By adopting the new SpacePilot motion controller, NX users stand to gain significant productivity enhancements, including a more streamlined design process, greater accuracy, and ultimately, overall time and/or cost savings.

The world's first intelligent motion controller, the SpacePilot provides designers and engineers with a better way to work among various 3D environments and sub-environments. As the designer moves between CAD environments (for example, from sketch to modeling and then to assembly), the SpacePilot automatically detects the transitions, updates its function keys with the new NX commands, and displays them on its LCD screen. Default functions are provided for each environment, and the SpacePilot also may be customized, with any NX commands mapped to correspond to keys on the SpacePilot.

Unlike those who work with only a mouse and keyboard, engineers and designers who use SpacePilot can pan, zoom, and rotate their 3D models while simultaneously editing and annotating with the mouse. The advanced sensing and adapting mechanism, combined with other SpacePilot functions, such as the "quick view" commands Top, Right, Left, Front, and Iso (executed at the touch of a button), enhance workflows and make interaction with NX faster, easier, and more fun.

The new SpacePilot capabilities are available with NX Version 3.0.4 or higher.
