Trolltech Announces Partnership With Wind River for Linux-Based Consumer Devices
Posted on: Tuesday, 4 April 2006, 06:00 CDT
Trolltech(R), a leading provider of technologies that makes advanced software faster to build and easier to use announced today its new strategic partnership with Wind River, the global leader in device software optimization (DSO). As one of Wind River's newest platform partners, the relationship was formed based on the combined goal of making it easier for manufacturers to develop device software on Linux-based consumer devices.
The partnership between the two companies will allow for a close alignment of product technology and future development. A result of this partnership will be the integration of the two companies' technology products: Qtopia by Trolltech -- the application platform that offers unmatched flexibility and control for customizing the user experience, and the Wind River(R) Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition. Design manufacturers of mobile phones and other consumer electronic devices will benefit from a supported pre-integrated Linux platform with world-class development tools and open source code.
"We are pleased to be working closely together with Wind River," said Haavard Nord, CEO Trolltech. "As the market for Linux based consumer devices expands, Trolltech and Wind River are an ideal match for device manufacturers looking for solutions that are well supported and best in class."
The combined solution will enable device manufacturers to more easily develop and rapidly deploy innovative, optimized, commercial-quality Linux-based products across a wide-range of microprocessors.
"Wind River's Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition and partner solutions like Trolltech's Qtopia, address the challenges raised in complex consumer device manufacturing," said John Fanelli, vice president of product planning and management, Wind River. "We are excited to be working with Trolltech as a Platform Partner on this combined solution."
Trolltech also announced that it would be speaking at Wind River's upcoming annual Worldwide User Conference, May 15-18 in Orlando, Florida. The session, entitled "GUI DSO, Developing Graphical Applications for Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition," will demonstrate how by using the Wind River platform and Qtopia, developers can make the right decisions regarding speed, performance, features and size when creating a graphical user interface.
