Mentor Graphics' EDGE Tool Suite Earns the Synchromesh Computing Validation and Seal of Approval for Freescale's I.MX Applications Processor Family

Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that Synchromesh Computing has validated the EDGE Tool Suite on the Freescale Semiconductor i.MX family of applications processors. The third-party validation, which was conducted under the "Cool Tool Experience" program, provides software developers with assurance that the EDGE software effectively supports the Freescale technology, including a complete and trouble-free, out-of-the-box experience.
According to Synchromesh Computing's testing and validation program, the EDGE Tool Suite scored above average on all categories tested including out-of-the-box experience (market readiness), documentation, functionality and system interoperability. The report further states that the EDGE Tool Suite performed well and can be recommended for the Freescale processors based on the ARM(R) core, specifically the i.MX21, i.MXL, i.MX1 and i.MXS.
"In considering the selection of a processor for a design, it is important to consider the software tool chain," said Synchromesh Computing CEO, Alan R. Weiss. "After all, engineers don't stare at the processor package all day long -- they work extensively with the software tools. Mentor Graphics' EDGE software really delivers a feature-rich environment where applications based on i.MX applications processors can be developed, debugged and executed efficiently and reliably. The more you use the EDGE tools, the more you appreciate their depth."
The Cool Tool Experience Market Ready Validation program tests the functionality and system interoperability of the various tools and hardware components. It then provides a unique scoring system that lets vendors know how well the company performed on factors customers care about, including software functionality, performance, documentation, installation, connectivity to embedded devices and technical support. Tools that pass the validation tests are then affixed with the Synchromesh Computing Tested and Validated Seal of Approval.
"The Synchromesh Computing Tools Market Ready Validation Program allows us to work closer with participating partners on a set of closely defined business and marketing programs. It also brings an additional level of verification and quality assurance from an out-of-box experience that Freescale desires for its customers. We want our customers to know Freescale is committed to providing reliable and trustworthy development tools support for the i.MX applications processor family," said Monica Hamilton, WMSG director of wireless developer relations, Freescale.
"Receiving the seal of validation and approval from Synchromesh Computing validates our product and our efforts," said Glen Johnson, product marketing manager, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics. "The real value we envisioned when submitting our product to Synchromesh Computing is that it brings us that much closer to addressing the real-world concerns and needs of our customers and establishes a basis for the ongoing evolution of our products."
