Availl Accelerates Branch Office Performance in Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2

Availl Inc., a leading provider of real-time data and storage software, today announced that Availl WAFS (Wide Area File System) software is now available on Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, which Microsoft announced as commercially available today. With Availl WAFS software, Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 gives exceptional server-to-server remote office performance on files shared among remote sites -- accelerating file access to local disk speed at every site for optimal end user productivity. Availl supports many Microsoft Windows platforms including Microsoft Windows Server 2000, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP and subsequent releases.
As distributed offices proliferate, organizations have made Windows-based servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems one of the branch office platforms of choice. Availl WAFS is Microsoft Windows-based software that creates a unified global file system, spanning Windows Servers across remote offices at any distance. Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 with Availl WAFS gives customers enhanced remote office file and storage management capabilities. Availl WAFS also provides remote offices with added business continuity, since users get 100 percent access to all files in read/write mode even when the network is down.
"Availl adds value to Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 by allowing IT staffs to give their remote office users true LAN speed access on shared files -- even if files are used at the same time by many staffers among offices across the globe," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager, Storage Technologies at Microsoft Corporation. "Availl's ability to also eliminate bandwidth and allow easy deployment makes it a fitting complement to R2 for all organizations with distributed operations or branch offices."
Using Availl WAFS, users in multiple offices across large distances -- for example, offices in Shanghai, Boston and Portland -- all access the identical files locally at local disk speed, even as files change at any other site around the globe. With Availl's real-time WAFS software, users in Portland would have local area network (LAN) access speed to the identical files as those being iterated upon by Boston users. True real-time version coherence across all sites guarantees users all access identical files, and that application file locking is protected -- no possibility of user conflicts.
In contrast to typical caching approaches, Availl's patent-pending techniques for true real-time mirroring, acceleration and optimization gives instant access to even rapidly changing files and eliminates 95 percent of bandwidth to remote offices. For any file type and any number of files, Availl software transfers only the byte level differences to files -- compressed -- across the WAN.
"We are proud to be a part of Microsoft's arsenal of solutions for branch office performance," said Chuck Shavit, CEO of Availl. "Together Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 and Availl's software allows distributed enterprises of all sizes to provide users the file sharing performance needed for critical operations, with cost-effective and more readily managed storage networks."
