Apr. 4--The search continues for a missing West Reading man convicted of having sexuallyexplicit images of children on his computer, Berks County law enforcement officials said Monday.
Police and deputy sheriffs began searching for Craig S. Jarowecki, 46, of the 500 block of Cherry Street after he failed to show up in court Friday for the final day of his trial.
In his absence, Jarowecki was convicted of possessing child pornography.
Before the trial resumed, Jarowecki had left an emotional audio tape at the Reading office of his attorney, Nicholas C. Stroumbakis.
On the tape, Jarowecki said he was terrified and concerned people were concluding he had an interest in child pornography when he does not.
The day before the verdict, Jarowecki testified he had been collecting adult pornography for five years, but was unaware that a few images of children were among his collection.
District Attorney Mark C. Baldwin argued Jarowecki must have known he had child pornography because he created computer folders for them using names that indicated the content.
According to court records, county detectives began investigating Jarowecki after America OnLine found he had sent an e-mail containing suspected child pornography.
