BlueArc Named to Bio-IT World Bio-IT 50, Highlighting Company's Impact on Life Sciences Market

Posted on: Wednesday, 5 April 2006, 00:00 CDT

BlueArc(R) Corporation, the world leader in network storage innovation, today announced that the company has been selected as a member of the inaugural Bio-IT 50 list by Bio-IT World Magazine, which highlights the top fifty companies in the life sciences industry. A pioneer in accelerating life sciences customer environments at universities including Princeton University, Columbia University and Washington University in St. Louis, and commercial settings, BlueArc will also be participating on a panel at the Bio-IT World Expo this morning on data storage and availability.

Featured in the March 2006 edition of Bio-IT World, the Bio-IT 50 list included some of the top names in the life sciences industry, ranging from pharmaceutical firms to technology companies that enable critical research. In the editors' coverage, BlueArc's unique Titan architecture was said to be "ideal for the computational demands of bioinformatics and drug discovery research, and helping BlueArc systems gain popularity in many life science organizations."

At Bio-IT World Conference & Expo 2006, BlueArc's Director of Life Sciences, James Reaney will be discussing the impact BlueArc's Titan 2000 storage system family can deliver to the life science and research markets, speeding drug discovery and making research efforts more efficient. The panel is scheduled at 10:30 AM, where representatives from leading data storage companies compare and contrast new technologies for storing, securing and sharing complex life science data, including intelligent archives, clustered computing, and continuous data protection.

As the nucleus of a research network, BlueArc network storage systems offer industry-leading performance for both compute-intensive and data-intensive environments. BlueArc removes the data-flow constraints that bottleneck even the most powerful computing clusters, and BlueArc provides fast data access that allows researchers to focus their attention on meeting the next research milestones rather than waiting for data. When projects require collaboration, BlueArc helps avoid costly duplicate efforts by promoting information sharing among researchers via fast, secure access to a central pool of files and databases.

BIOBASE, the leading content provider of biological databases, knowledge tools and software for the life science industry, is one company who has benefited from BlueArc's leading performance and capacity offerings.

"For our developers and all of our customers who demand the best tools to perform their research rapidly, storage is a critical element," said Axel Wagner, IT Manager for BIOBASE. "BlueArc's Titan offered us the opportunity to consolidate multiple NAS filers while at the same time reducing time to complete projects, and offering capacity to scale as we grow."

"From top universities to leading pharmaceutical and biotech firms, researchers enjoy faster time to results, increased collaboration, and lower costs by deploying Titan," said Steve Daheb, vice president of marketing and business development for BlueArc. "Built upon a patented hardware-accelerated architecture, Titan delivers the most flexible, high performance, highly scalable, network storage solution available today. We are pleased to have been recognized by Bio-IT World as part of the Bio-IT 50 and to participate in the Bio-IT World Expo."

The Bio-IT 50 is a group of the 50 firms considered to be the most invaluable partners to the biopharma industry, or show the potential to become so in the opinions of the editors of Bio-IT World.
