Embedded Software Group and Beijing Feynman Software Sign Partnership Agreement

At Linux World 2006, Embedded Software Group (ESG), a leading services and technology provider for device level Linux based in Silicon Valley, and Beijing Feynman Software Technology Co., Ltd., one of China's leading embedded system technology solutions and development tools providers, today announced their strategic partnership. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will provide Chinese companies with embedded technology and software services including MiniGUI, provided by Feynman Software, and device level Linux solutions provided by ESG. Both Feynman and ESG expect to deliver driver development, kernel porting, customization and optimization for Chinese companies beginning immediately.
ESG offers world-class expertise in embedded software, BSPs, drivers, embedded Linux, WinCE, real-time systems, networking, multimedia, data compression/decompression and cryptography. The company employs a rigorous and proven development process, the appropriate system and regression testing and management methods that ensure exceptional quality. ESG is acknowledged for its on-time, on-budget track record, working with customers including Cirrus Logic, Hewlett-Packard and Transmeta.
Feynman began developing its Graphical User Interface support system for real-time embedded systems based on Linux in 1998. At the beginning of 1999, its MiniGUI became available as free software under a GPL license. During its eight years' development, MiniGUI has been widely applied to many projects and products including mobile phones, video telephones, hand-held devices, medical equipment, industrial controllers and query terminals. Customers throughout China and in Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia have applied MiniGUI to their products. In 2002 Feynman defined the concept of "embedded middleware," providing its professional graphics library to help customers design UI-based applications.
"In working with domestic Chinese companies, Feynman has found that there are many customers who are not as familiar with low level Operating Systems or who lack experience in kernel development," stated Sahel Binesh, CEO of Embedded Software Group. "These are two areas in which ESG has decades of expertise. Feynman is already helping many of these companies to improve application development, as well as knowing both the technical and business needs of the Chinese embedded industry. Working in collaboration with Feynman we can help Chinese companies focus on developing their customized applications in order to compete more effectively domestically and overseas," she added.
"As we look at the present China market, we are convinced that the requirement for embedded software is growing rapidly but that many Chinese companies are turning to companies overseas to provide these high level services," stated Yongming Wei, Chief Architect and CEO of Beijing Feynman Software Technology Co., Ltd. "ESG is a dynamic, technology-driven enterprise with a thorough understanding of embedded systems development and the advantage of more than twenty years of experience, beginning with the early development of HP Unix OS low level kernels."
Feynman understands the needs of Chinese companies and the opportunity to provide not only MiniGui but software services including OS ports, kernel development and optimization, as well as device driver development and integration. As a result, Feynman will be collaborating with ESG to provide these services for its domestic customers. "More and more Chinese companies are realizing they cannot do everything themselves in order to stay competitive with their counterparts. They need to hire the right expertise and outsource some of their software development and optimization. This partnership will bring world-class embedded software services into China directly, bring a US team and its expertise into China and provide Chinese customers with the same services, at their offices, as in America," Wei concluded.
