Arkeia Software, the leading provider of powerful, innovative data protection software for networked storage, announced today at Storage Networking World in San Diego, Arkeia Network Backup Version 5.5, with full support for Unicode/UTF-8 characters in the backup index. With this announcement, multinational companies with operations in Asia or the Middle East can now leverage Arkeia products across their entire organization.
Unicode character support is necessary for many Asian-based applications produced in languages such as Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. The addition of Unicode support continues Arkeia Software's commitment to provide single-source solutions for more than 5,000 enterprise customers across 50 countries.
"StorArray has customers doing business all over the world, and many have standardized on Arkeia Software in their data center or remote sites. This new offering will make it possible for them to use Arkeia Software throughout their organization," said Francis Yip, VP Asia-Pacific Business, of StorArray Technologies, a leading storage and data protection solution provider with business operations in China and Southeast Asia. "This is a significant new development for Arkeia Software, and I look forward to bringing it to our multinational customers. Our China customers who are already impressed with Arkeia's software performance and features will be delighted to learn that they can now view and manage files and directories named with Chinese character set."
Unicode is a universal codepage (which converts numeric code points into characters) that can be used with any compliant computer platform or software application. ASCII and most other traditional codepage encoding systems support 256 characters or less. Unicode can support almost 100,000 characters from all the world's major languages, including complex, non-Western languages. The new version of Arkeia Network Backup will allow Unicode/UTF-8 characters in directory names and file names to be viewed and managed in the Arkeia Software data protection index.
"Linux and open source is a significant movement across the world. As the data protection pioneer for Linux and open source, we are thrilled to offer the additional management flexibility found in Arkeia Network Backup Version 5.5 to any enterprise who does business in Asia or the Middle East," said Alain Pechon, CEO Arkeia Software.
