AlterPoint, Inc.: AlterPoint's DeviceAuthority v4.5 -- With New Software Development Kit -- Reduces Risks Through Automation and Accelerates CMDB and ITIL Initiatives
AlterPoint, the leading provider of intelligent network change and configuration management solutions, today announced the availability of the AlterPoint Software Development Kit (SDK) -- as part of its new DeviceAuthority v4.5 solution. The SDK was developed in direct response to partner and customer demand for greater integration of network configuration data with other key network and enterprise IT systems.
"As the discipline of network operations management has matured, it has become clear that there is a dependent link between accurate network change and configuration management and operational performance and risk reduction," said Roger Castillo, CTO of AlterPoint. "AlterPoint's first accomplishment in network change and configuration management was collecting and normalizing multi-vendor network configuration data and we are seeing increased adoption of DeviceAuthority as our customers' network inventory database of record. With the SDK, AlterPoint is taking the market to the next level by establishing standards for integrating this data with other systems to enable practical roll-out of strategic IT projects like ITIL and enterprise CMDB."
Unlike the proprietary application programming interfaces (APIs) that most vendors make available for integration, AlterPoint's SDK was explicitly developed for customers, strategic partners, and systems integrators to accelerate and extend the integration of network change and configuration management capabilities. The SDK makes AlterPoint's vendor-neutral data model, the Network Intelligence Model, fully available to partners, integrators and customers to accelerate solution delivery by shifting focus away from data acquisition.
The AlterPoint SDK provides several new capabilities, which allow DeviceAuthority to be easily integrated with an enterprise's entire management suite -- such as performance, monitoring, asset management, change workflow and enterprise CMDB software. Since DeviceAuthority has the most comprehensive capture and modeling of network configuration and network inventory in the industry, customers can leverage DeviceAuthority as both a network configuration inventory of record and as a critical feed into their enterprise CMDB.
To accommodate the heterogeneous IT ecosystem and offer maximum choice, AlterPoint developed multiple interfaces for the SDK utilizing EJB, Web Services, Perl scripting, RSS and SNMP. Through the DeviceAuthority Event Gateway, NCCM notifications can be easily integrated into broader processes such as change, vulnerability and asset management.
"Our customers are looking for closed loop, real-time systems that span applications, and network configuration data is core to these initiatives," adds CTO Castillo. "The AlterPoint SDK dramatically helps us and our partners to deliver faster, more tightly integrated solutions that meet these requirements."
DeviceAuthority v4.5 also includes:
-- Accelerated visibility, safer changes and easier governance over the network infrastructure through a new "welcome system" to quickly guide users with clear, concise examples and "Cheat Sheet" templates that rapidly exposes DeviceAuthority's powerful Integrated Network Environment
-- New device diagnostic data that can be used for policies and rules to augment DeviceAuthority's change accuracy and compliance capabilities
-- Expanded device coverage and improved security with support for Secure Shell Version 2 (SSHv2) protocol
