Major Insurance Company Deploys ControlGuard Endpoint Security Solution to Secure Customer Data

Posted on: Monday, 10 April 2006, 12:00 CDT

WASHINGTON, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- ControlGuard, a leading provider of endpoint security solutions, today announced at The Twelfth National HIPAA Summit that Clal Insurance has implemented ControlGuard Endpoint Security Solution to protect customer data and proprietary information.

ControlGuard's technology is designed to enable enterprises to address Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulatory requirements by securing portable devices and removable media. ControlGuard flagship product Endpoint Access Manager(TM) is deployed at Clal Insurance protecting thousands of endpoints.

HIPAA requires healthcare institutions, insurance companies and any organization that handles medical records to limit the disclosure of an individual's health information and secures written and electronic patient records. The regulation suggests that healthcare facilities identify the people or categories of workers that need access to sensitive information and the circumstances in which such access in needed. The healthcare industry is undergoing major changes due to HIPAA, which is having a dramatic impact on business processes and IT infrastructure.

As global corporations have drastically increased their use of portable devices and removable media, including laptops, iPods, CDs, memory sticks and floppy disks, they are also just now recognizing that these devices are vulnerable to a wide array of security threats, including malware, data theft and information leakage.

"Today, thousands of workstations used at Clal Insurance and its subsidiaries are managed by the ControlGuard solution, which enables highly powerful and flexible management capabilities," said Hanoch Ben-David, CTO at Clal Insurance. "It allows system administrators to grant user permissions based on profiles determined at the organizational level. The project includes full integration of the ControlGuard product in the company's CA Unicenter Enterprise Management System, extending the system's capabilities to control and monitor endpoint I/O activities with status displayed at the Unicenter."

Clal Insurance chose ControlGuard's Endpoint Access Manager in order to enforce corporate policy by managing the use of removable media and wireless communication in the organization. The technology supports Clal Insurance's business decision to minimize the risks of information leaks from various endpoints in the organization. ControlGuard's solution was selected for its ability to support a large decentralized organization and to provide a highly manageable simple to use system. ControlGuard technology is also tightly integrated with CA's Unicenter control and command system, which is used to manage Clal Insurance IT network.

"Insurance, financial and healthcare services companies compile vast amounts of confidential customer information that must be protected against possible access by unauthorized parties" said Israel Levy, CEO of ControlGuard. " We are thrilled that Clal Insurance decided to utilize ControlGuard's endpoint security solution to manage the protection of its PCs."
