SCG Leads Southern California Technology Firms With Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Solutions Consulting Group (SCG) a Microsoft Partner firm located in San Diego and Irvine, California, was highlighted as a Best Practice example during Microsoft's Southern California Launch for SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services. SCG was featured for the successful delivery of their Reporting Portal Solution for a major west-coast restaurant chain.
SCG's project, along with other customer success stories, was highlighted at all three Microsoft launch events in Santa Monica, San Diego, and Irvine. SCG's solution illustrates how Reporting Services is helping companies reduce TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) while enabling increased management information insight. SCG worked with CBS (Custom Business Solutions) to deliver a Reporting Portal that all restaurant line managers can use to determine labor usage requirements. SCG began working with the Reporting Services product in beta stage.
The Business Case for Reporting Services
"Reporting Services provides a unique opportunity for companies to spend less in IT, while giving management more flexibility in the area of Enterprise Reporting and Business Intelligence (BI)," according to Bill Edmett, Jr., Partner, responsible for Practice Management at SCG. "Traditionally, BI and Enterprise Reporting projects with complex requirements for web-based analytical functionality translated to expensive projects with software vendors. Features such as column sorting, conditional formatting, nested grouping, flexible rendering, and email broadcasting required very expensive software such as Microstrategy Intelligence Server and Microstrategy Narrowcast Server. Alternatives included Business Objects solutions, or the purchase of Crystal Enterprise along with WebIntelligence for ad-hoc querying and analysis. Even with extensive investment, the two products are not integrated."
The result of these traditional approaches was higher IT budgets and extensive integration headaches, with budgets often exceeding six figures. With either approach, companies still had to find room in their IT budget to make all of the technologies work correctly. For this reason Microsoft's Reporting Services will penetrate and expand this market. Reporting Services, working with DTS and Analysis Services, completes the vision for a true Microsoft BI solution.
SCG Leads the Market in Reporting Services Solutions
SCG is adopting Reporting Services to round out their Business Intelligence offering, in addition to utilizing it within large-scale ERP implementations for Microsoft Great Plains and complex integration projects requiring Enterprise Reporting.
"We have always been known for our Microsoft SQL Server successes as well having a BI practice for mid-market companies. With Reporting Services we can give our customers more without having to prove ROI against very large project budgets. It's almost a no-brainer for our customers, because in most cases they already own the license for the recently released XML Web Service without knowing it. Also, because Reporting Services is so well integrated with Visual Studio.NET and all of the complementary SQL Server 2000 BI tools and services, companies can start small and then scale the architecture as report requests become more frequent and complex," says Edmett.
