Point Makes Enterprise Computing Mobile
¶ SMC Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e, the ISP and all the way home, today announced the newest in its EliteConnect(TM) family of Enterprise wireless networking products, a 2.4GHz 802.11g Wireless Access Point (SMC2552W-G). Available in late March, the new SMC2552W-G provides secure, high-performance enterprise-class wireless 802.11b and g network access. Designed for reliability, security, manageability and upgradability, the SMC2552W-G is an ideal solution for today's mobile work force. With the flexibility to connect both 802.11b and g-compliant devices to the Enterprise network at 2.4GHz and 11Mbps/54Mbps radio transmission, its 802.11b/g mini-PCI modules enhance its flexibility even further, future-proofing the wireless network while maximizing mobility. ¶ Securing the wireless LAN is critical in the Enterprise environment, and the EliteConnect 2.4GHz 802.11g Wireless Access Point (SMC2552W-G) addresses security with enterprise-level advanced authentication and encryption security features, including Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), up to 152-bit WEP encryption, AES, 802.1x authentication access control with key rotation (MD5, EAP-TLS per user per session key, EAP-TTLS per user per session key, session key and broadcast key rotation, and PEAP), support for FUNK Odyssey and Microsoft RADIUS Server, up to 256 MAC address authentication, open/share authentication, disabled SSID broadcast, and up to 16 virtual LANs (VLANs). In addition, the integrated Kensington security slot provides security against theft when users add an optional Kensington Lock. ¶ Web-based network management tools make configuration and remote management of the network simple, and IT professionals can also use Command Line Interface (CLI) to quickly and easily manage the device and wireless network. In addition, SMC Networks EliteView Management Software and SNMP support in SMC2552W-G allows easy integration of the wireless LAN with the wired infrastructure. Other management features include Syslog and Event Logging. ¶ The SMC2552W-G also provides configurable output transmit power to adjust coverage area size and, for extended range, its detachable antennas can be replaced with optional SMC 2.4GHz High Gain Antennas. Support for IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet simplifies installation by enabling the standard Category 5 cable to provide power to the Access Point. ¶ Available in late March 2004, the SMC2552W-G EliteConnect(TM) 2.4GHz 802.11g Wireless Access Point carries an MSRP of $440.
