Zenographics and Zoran Collaborate to Provide Color Raster Printing Solutions; Combined Products Target Color Laser Printers and MFPs

Zenographics, Inc. and Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq:ZRAN) announced an agreement to collaborate on providing raster printing solutions for the desktop and workgroup color laser market.

The companies will integrate Zenographics' Zx PC-based rendering solution with Zoran's Integrated Print System (IPS) page description language interpreter solution and its Quatro family of processors. Under the agreement, Zenographics will focus on development of Zx and Zoran will provide marketing, sales, and customer support of the combined solutions to worldwide printer and multifunction peripheral (MFP) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Zenographics' Zx is a high-speed imaging subsystem that renders high-resolution data at hundreds of pages per minute utilizing an innovative compressed continuous tone raster format. It is comprised of a Zx renderer that OEMs can integrate with any print driver platform and a Zx interpreter that is integrated with printer firmware.

IDC forecasts that worldwide shipments of color laser printers and MFPs will grow from 3.9 million units in 2005 to over 7 million units by 2009. "This rapidly growing market demands that OEMs continually improve performance, quality, and price," stated Bob Romney, president of Zenographics. "The solutions developed through the collaboration between Zenographics and Zoran will play a key role in helping OEMs compete by building fast color printers and MFPs that minimize controller costs."
