SAN FRANCISCO, RSA Conference, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. , the creator and leading advocate of Java(TM) technology, today announced a targeted offering to enable enterprise-wide identity management of Microsoft environments. Based on award-winning technology acquired from Waveset Technologies, Sun Identity Manager for Microsoft provides quick-to-deploy provisioning, as well as password and directory management capabilities for Microsoft products.
Through out-of-the-box integration, Sun Identity Manager (formerly known as Waveset Lighthouse) helps enable organizations to centralize the administration and synchronization of user identities across all enterprise application environments. Utilizing agentless technology, Sun Identity Manager is lightweight and non-invasive, speeding deployment time and simplifying ongoing maintenance.
"As in many complex organizations, the identity information of our employees, contractors and business partners is dispersed across multiple types of systems and applications," said Rick Perry, director, enterprise operations and security, Technology Services, at The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company. "Our investment in Microsoft software is a key component of our diverse identity infrastructure and is a significant factor in our ongoing success at the railroad. With this announcement, Sun is reinforcing its commitment to help customers streamline the management of complex identity information, regardless of their operating environment."
"Identity management is an essential component of a secure environment and its success is dependent on having centralized visibility across an entire enterprise," said Mark McClain, VP of Identity Management Marketing, Sun. "Sun realizes that enterprise customers often maintain complex, heterogeneous environments and we are delivering an identity management offering that can be integrated into any IT infrastructure quickly and cost-effectively. By bridging the identity gap between Microsoft and other application environments, we will help organizations reduce costs, enhance security, and improve accountability."
Identity management is at the core of delivering secure network services to the right people at the right time. Sun recognizes that customers with heterogeneous identity infrastructures face unique management challenges and is dedicated to helping solve them with the Sun Identity Manager for Microsoft. Sun's Java Enterprise System includes the Java System Identity Server, the industry's leading access control offering, and will integrate Sun Identity Manager for Microsoft in future versions.
Sun Identity Manager for Microsoft is available immediately at a sharply reduced license fee from standard pricing. It may be used to manage an unlimited number of Microsoft resources in the enterprise, including Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS), Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange.
In addition to the Microsoft adapters, Sun offers packaged integration with a number of operating platforms including Sun Solaris (TM), Linux, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and IBM OS/390 and a variety of enterprise software environments including: BEA Systems, Entrust Technologies, IBM, Netegrity, Novell, Oblix, OpenNetwork, PeopleSoft, RSA Security, and SAP.
Sun will be showcasing the Sun Identity Manager for Microsoft at the 2004 RSA Conference, February 24-26 in booth # 1021 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
