Yahoo! Names Dr. Qi Lu Senior Vice President of Engineering for Search and Search Marketing

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), a leading global Internet company, today announced the appointment of Dr. Qi Lu to senior vice president of engineering for search and search marketing. In his new role, Lu will lead development efforts around Yahoo!'s Web search and monetization platforms. Lu will report to Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, Farzad Nazem.
"Over the past few years, Qi has attracted some of the best and brightest talent, amassing a world-class team of Search engineers. He also has made tremendous progress with various Yahoo! services including the development of the Yahoo! Search platform," said Nazem. "He is a proven thought leader in Web search and he will continue to be a valuable asset to the long-term growth goals of Yahoo!'s engineering team."
Along with his contributions in building Yahoo!'s search platform, Lu played a key role in the development of Yahoo!'s recently launched social search products, including My Web 2.0 and Yahoo! Answers, as well as the acquisition and integration of Flickr and Del.icio.us. Additionally, he was instrumental in initiating the development of the new Yahoo! Maps and Yahoo! Local services.

Previously, Lu was the vice president of engineering at Yahoo!, responsible for the technology development of Yahoo!'s Search and Marketplace business unit which includes the company's search, e-commerce, and local listings of businesses and products.
Prior to joining Yahoo! in 1998, Lu was a Research Staff Member at IBM Almaden Research Center. Before that, Lu worked at Carnegie Mellon University as a Research Associate, and at Fudan University in China as a faculty member.
Lu received his B.S. and M.S. in computer science from Fudan University and his Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.
