BEIJING, April 17 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The Mobile Multimedia Technology Alliance (MMTA), today announced that its two founding members Vimicro and ZTE have made good progress in designing multimedia phones, enabled with a set of audio and video features initiated by MMTA technical work groups. Incorporated with Vimicro's newly launched Vinno integrated multimedia processors, ZTE's latest handset models which were launched early this year received much welcome from the market so far.
''We chose Vinno processors mainly for two reasons,'' said Dr. Shen Can, Director of Product, Multimedia Terminal Division, ZTE Corporation. ''First, our latest phone model is aiming to deliver excellent video/audio features endorsed by major Chinese telecom operators. Vinno's highly integrated designs with flexible multimedia capabilities, together with small die size and low power consumption is the right product to meet our needs. More importantly, our team has been working with Vimicro within MMTA's work groups for a longtime. Based on MMTA's platform, we are confident to continuously deliver the best phones to meet demand from China and overseas markets.''
Well-known telecommunication equipment providers such as ZTE and Huawei are becoming increasingly aggressive in the handset sector compared to other existing domestic and international players in the market. Both ZTE and Huawei are founding members of MMTA, which was established in October 2004 by leading participants in China's telecommunication industry to establish and promote domestic and international technical innovation and standards and to promote 3G applications in China.
''We are happy to see that one year after MMTA's inception, our members are making good progress not only in initiating and setting up the multimedia standards for mobile applications, but also starting to deliver such products for the markets.'' Commented by Mr. Jiang Lintao, the Chairman of MMTA, and the Chairman of IP and Multimedia standard groups in China, ''We are committed to promote such joint programs and drive for more partnership within MMTA in the near future, paving roads for China's emerging 3G applications.''
"As multimedia gains its importance in mobile communication, Vimicro has steadily built up its product portfolio to provide multimedia processors ranging from advanced audio solutions, to advanced camera and video solutions, and now to our latest single-chip integrated solutions" said Dr. Dave Yang, Co-founder and CTO of Vimicro. "With Vimicro's continued innovations in the mixed-signal mobile multimedia space, along with our depth and breadth in system, firmware, embedded software expertise and multimedia SOC design platform, we believe that our new Vinno products will enable our customers to design and manufacture handsets to meet a variety of multimedia requirements with fast time-to-market and competitive cost."
