Two-Day, Two-City Recycling Event Celebrates Earth Day 2006; Toshiba Offering $50 Coupon on Its Notebooks in Exchange for Old PCs

In a move to provide consumers with an effective avenue to dispose of e-waste, Toshiba's Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. based in Irvine, is co-hosting a two-day, e-waste recycling event in celebration of Earth Day at two Orange County Best Buy stores.

In addition to Toshiba and Best Buy, co-sponsors of the event include the Orange County Business Council, KOCE and the cities of Westminster, Calif., and Mission Viejo, Calif.

Recyclers are asked to bring their electronic waste to Best Buy stores in Mission Viejo and Westminster on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Mission Viejo Best Buy store is located at 25422 El Paseo and the Westminster Best Buy store can be found at 500 Westminster Mall Road.

In exchange for old PCs and monitors, Toshiba will provide a $50 coupon for each household towards the purchase of any Toshiba mobile computer at the Best Buy store location where the coupon was received. In addition, Microsoft is making available complimentary Streets & Trips software for customers who recycle and purchase a Toshiba notebook on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22.

Demonstrating Toshiba and its partners' commitment to the environment, this free event is designed to make it convenient and inviting to recycle and to raise awareness of regulations adopted by the state of California's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) prohibiting the disposal of e-waste in municipal trash bins.

"We understand the importance of properly disposing used electronic products to protect our Earth," said Mark A. Simons, vice president and general manager, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems. "We are pleased to partner with Best Buy to provide consumers with an environmentally friendly method of disposing obsolete electronics."

"During this two-day event we expect to collect enough e-waste to fill two 18-wheel, tractor-trailers," said Linda Wilkinson, senior manager corporate events and meeting planning, Best Buy. "We are pleased to partner with Toshiba to provide our customers with an efficient manner to dispose of electronic waste."

Participants in the recycling event may drop off TVs, computer monitors, computer processors and peripherals, scanners, printers, fax machines, ink jet and printer cartridges, stereo equipment, VCRs and all phones (including cellular).

Items not accepted include batteries, microwaves, smoke detectors and large household appliances including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and other major appliances.
