Aepona Unveils New Telecoms Applications Solutions-Based Strategy

Posted on: Monday, 24 April 2006, 09:00 CDT

Aepona, the leading supplier of services and application solutions to telecoms service providers, today announced a key aspect of its new strategy to accelerate its growth. Building on its popular gateway product, Aepona is extending its portfolio of software and services to deliver the end-to-end solutions that customers now require for real-time network services.

As an evolution of its strategy, from providing enabling technology to network operators, Aepona is extending its offerings to include a range of future-proof applications for both traditional and next generation networks. Aepona's portfolio of end-to-end solutions is being developed in response to demand from its customers and being fulfilled by working closely with a select number of application vendors.

To help operators who are wrestling with the complexities of a large number of application vendors, Aepona is now offering a service as an application aggregator. In addition to developing bespoke solutions, Aepona now also manages off-the-shelf applications from third parties for customers as well as all testing and integration.

"Having looked at how our customers use our product suite and their need for us to deliver both consultancy and applications, we are now offering an application aggregation service," said Michael Curran, senior vice president of market development at Aepona. "We are helping operators develop new revenue opportunities and increasing the size of their addressable market for those services by extending real-time service to pre-pay customers."

Aepona has categorised its applications offerings into Enterprise, Operator Revenue Optimisation, Community and Mass Market Services. An integral part of the work is the joint construction of each customer's applications roadmap and associated delivery programme.

"We're building on the acknowledged strengths of Aepona as a supplier of gateway and interaction solutions to operators, including France Telecom Group, KPN, Sprint, E+ and VimpelCom. Our understanding of IT and telecom networks and the innovative ways we're resolving customer problems puts us in a strong position to execute this plan," said Isaac Olasoko, CEO of Aepona.

"Infrastructure software provides the foundation on which new telecoms services are built but by itself can prove a difficult sale to cash-constrained mobile operators," said Tony Cripps, wireless software analyst at Ovum. "Pre-integrated applications built on a common framework provide a showcase for infrastructure vendors and a means for operators to rapidly add additional services in future."

Aepona is leveraging its early market success with enterprise applications such as VPN and virtual PBX and operator revenue services such as Red Key(1) and missed call notification, while listening to the demands of its customers for a one-stop shop for complete applications solutions, not just enabling technologies.

Aepona will continue to complement its direct solutions sales approach with a compelling OEM model for resellers of larger solutions such as service delivery platforms.

"Aepona is emerging from its shell with a raft of new initiatives designed to fuel growth over the next 12 months. For too long we have kept our light under a bushel, content with the knowledge that our customers respected our engineering excellence," said Isaac Osaloko. "Now we are taking advantage of our innovative technology and experience, opening new offices globally and building the partnerships needed to accelerate growth."

About Aepona

Aepona's products and services deliver next generation applications to communications services providers as they transition to next generation networks including IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). The company is headquartered in Northern Ireland with offices worldwide.

Aepona's products and services have been chosen by a range of blue chip operators, such as Orange, Sprint Nextel, E+, VimpelCom and Bridge Mobile Alliance in Asia for telecoms applications and web services solutions.

Aepona's open architecture protects operators' investment in legacy networks while migrating to an IMS platform. In Aepona's IMS migration solutions, customer services are hosted in a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) environment yet delivered through the existing legacy network, giving customers the best of both worlds.

(1) Red Key service provides the called person with a menu of call termination options on pressing the phone's red key, e.g. divert to PA, divert to voicemail, reply with preset SMS, etc. This is invaluable to the end user who, though busy, wants to be responsive.
