Vangard Voice Systems and IBM Make It Easier to Develop Voice-Enabled Enterprise Applications

Posted on: Wednesday, 26 April 2006, 06:00 CDT

Vangard Voice Systems Inc., a pioneering provider of middleware development tools for turning speech into information, and IBM today announced an OEM agreement where Vangard, using IBM technology, can create a software developer's kit that can enable independent software vendors to easily and cost-effectively integrate speech recognition capabilities into enterprise applications.

Vangard will integrate the IBM Embedded ViaVoice speech recognition engine with its AccuSPEECH(R) middleware development tools. AccuSPEECH is Vangard's patented software component technology that makes speech usable as an input modality. The combined offering can make it easy for companies to speech-enable their applications, offering voice as an input interface method beyond the traditional tapping, touching or typing commonly used today. Mobile workers using PDAs, desktop, tablet and notebook PCs now have hands-free, wireless speech access to enterprise applications for entering and accessing data on electronic forms.

"IBM is excited to work with Vangard Voice to extend its award-winning IBM Embedded ViaVoice speech recognition technology to new vertical markets, including the public safety, healthcare, education, manufacturing, government, and military markets for hands-free or eyes-free data input and access," said Mac Martin, World Wide Sales, for IBM. "The Vangard Voice AccuSPEECH solution can offer ease of integration that will be valuable to application developers who prefer to focus on application logic rather than the mechanics of voice recognition."

"We are honored to work with IBM to deliver the benefits and opportunities that voice-enabling applications will bring to businesses and governments worldwide," said Bob Bova, CEO and president of Vangard Voice Systems. "Opportunities continue to expand due to the proliferation of mobile devices and eForms, increase in wireless connectivity, and the growth of the mobile workforce. We also believe that speech-enablement capability holds great promise for assisting the disabled and elderly populations in particular, to be able to enjoy an independent quality of life not currently available to them."
