MARCO ISLAND, Fla., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Corporation and Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced last night at the Developer's Conference being held in Marco Island, Florida, that Omtool, Ltd. has won the Grand Prize in the Ricoh and Sun Java Solutions $100,000 Developer Challenge. The Challenge called for the development of creative software applications based on Java technology that provide commercial solutions running on the Ricoh Embedded Software Architecture platform. All participants in the Developer Challenge were Premier Plus members of the Ricoh Developer Program (RiDP).
Omtool, Ltd., a provider of document-routing solutions and services that enable organizations to manage the capture, process, and delivery of "mixed-mode" documents (containing both paper and electronic documents) into electronic information systems, took home the Grand Prize honor for its AccuRoute solution. AccuRoute, which is primarily designed for the financial and legal markets, offers several advanced features including authenticated scan to email, Windows shared folders and the ability to route to multiple destinations simultaneously. Custom workflows can be defined using Omtool "embedded directives," which may be defined from a desktop application or the MFP LCD. In addition, AccuRoute has strong integration with Windows desktop, allowing digital documents to be added to the workflow via a right-click or drag-and-drop.
For winning the competition, Omtool will receive a $50,000 marketing fund, its choice of a Ricoh MFP with an MSRP up to $25,000 and a one-year maintenance contract, a Sun workstation, and a trip to San Francisco for the JavaOne conference in May. Additionally, Omtool will receive certification for its AccuRoute solution.
eCopy, Inc., a provider of open and flexible solutions that integrate paper-based information into existing business processes and applications, won the Second Place Prize for its ShareScan OP solution. ShareScan OP is a comprehensive document-routing solution with authenticated scan to email, Windows shared folders and the ability to do bates numbering and cost recovery. Second Prize includes a free mid-range MFP with an MSRP up to $18,000 and a one-year maintenance contract.
Notable Solutions Inc., a provider of content capture solutions, took home Third Prize for AutoStore, which also offers authenticated scan to email and Windows shared folders, as well as OCR service with load balancing and watermarking. Notable Solution will be awarded a low volume MFP with an MSRP up to $12,000 and a one-year maintenance contract.
"This year's Developer Challenge received a number of well-qualified and innovative solutions, making the decision process very difficult," said Wayne Mize, vice president of the solutions marketing division for Ricoh Corporation. "All three of the winners have developed solutions that will enable Ricoh to continue to provide our customers with state-of-the-art technology, applications, and services."
"The Developer Challenge encourages creativity and is an excellent platform for developers to showcase their Java technology-based business and consumer applications," said Mark Herring, senior director of Java Brand Marketing, Sun Microsystems. "We are pleased to announce this year's winners, with Omtool leading the way, as this Challenge has uncovered a wealth of knowledge and expertise."
