Posted on: Friday, 28 April 2006, 09:00 CDT
Signiant Inc., the leader in managing the world's distributed data, today announced the release and full availability of Mobilize(TM) for Digital Content Distribution, leveraging the application framework and other new enhancements designed into Version 6 of Signiant's Mobilize.
Mobilize for Digital Content Distribution solves the enormous control, workflow integration and transport problems brought on by the explosion of digital and digitized media. Mobilize's best-of-breed network efficiencies, security and centralized management provide significant cost savings and operational improvements for any organization with distributed data. Version 6 includes new WAN acceleration capabilities that allow the owners of large digital media assets to move those files over long distances very quickly, cost-effectively and in a completely managed environment.
-- In a benchmark test that moved a 100MB file over a network with 264ms latency, it took 25 minutes using TCP/IP. With Mobilize WAN Acceleration, the same transfer took only 65 seconds.
"In the Media and Entertainment industry, where the creation of digital media is expanding in all areas and where synchronized global production teams are involved, it is necessary to design and implement sound methodologies for digital content distribution. These solutions must be robust, scaleable, and easy-to-manage. Signiant's world-class technology and solutions move data effectively and automate such workflows," said Tom Ohanian, Academy Award(R) and two-time Emmy(R) Award-winning Digital Media industry expert and President of TAO Associates.
In support of local newscasts, Mobilize for Digital Content Distribution can be used to share digital video clips between television network operations centers and their affiliated stations and other business partners across the globe. For important, late-breaking news, these transmissions have traditionally been sent via expensive satellite links, or sent on physical tape media via courier. Mobilize will now help these organizations meet time-to-air deadlines while dramatically reducing their costs. Mobilize provides full tracking, auditing and reporting capabilities so content owners know where their assets are at any given time.
"Fast, efficient and reliable digital content distribution will provide a big competitive advantage for media organizations that have time-sensitive data transport requirements," said Allen Weiner, Research Vice President at Gartner. "As more rich media content becomes available in a wide range of digital formats, superior distribution and management capabilities will become a key business requirement."
"Signiant has solved the wide area data management problem for hundreds of world-class organizations in fields such as financial services, health care, defense and other government entities, high technology and consumer products," said Dennis Albano, CEO of Signiant. "With the addition of Mobilize for Digital Content Distribution, we can now provide outstanding value to customers in the broadcast, media and entertainment industries. These companies need to efficiently move large files over wide area networks, within and between organizations, and to automate the wide range of associated workflows."
Also new in Mobilize Version 6 are a MAC OS X data transfer client, an interactive web-based client for mobile users, an improved graphical user interface (GUI) and simplified security management.
