By Kyodo News International, Tokyo
Apr. 28–TOKYO — Nintendo Co. said Friday it has decided to name its next-generation game console “Wii” before the new product’s debut later this year.
The name, sounding like “we” in English, means that every family member can enjoy playing the new machine, the company said.
The new console will feature a controller that can be operated with one hand.
Among other game console makers, Microsoft Corp. has already launched the new Xbox 360. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. plans to introduce the PlayStation 3 within this year.
