The Wall Street Journal Online Celebrates 10 Years As the Leading Subscription News Site on the Web

The Wall Street Journal Online celebrates its 10-year anniversary today as the largest paid subscription news site on the Web. To mark this milestone, the Online Journal will host an Open House, starting today through May 10, making the entire site free for 10 consecutive days.
In conjunction with the Open House, the site is offering a sweepstakes for a chance to win an ultra-luxurious cruise aboard the Regent Seven Seas Voyager, sponsored by American Express. The sweepstakes will run starting today through May 27.
The celebration kicks off this morning when The Wall Street Journal Online will go live from Times Square in New York with a mobile newsroom.
Tomorrow, May 2, the Online Journal will hold a San Francisco event in partnership with the San Francisco metro ("MUNI"). WSJ.com will provide free passes to the metro, so consumers can commute for free, courtesy of the Online Journal.

The Online Journal will publish a special editorial package to celebrate its 10th anniversary, including:

-- A series of Newshound quizzes for readers
-- E-commerce trends from the past decade and predictions for the future
-- Bad ideas: the best of the worst from the Internet boom and past decade
-- Dow Jones Industrial Average over the past 10 years: An interactive graphic examines the market's turns, with images, text and audio
-- Web ads: what's next in the evolution
-- Web on film: how the Internet is portrayed in film then and now, with a gallery of movies
-- Most popular WSJ.com stories
-- Evolution of online investing
-- The perfect news Web site, circa 2016, with reader feedback incorporated
WSJ.com visitors will be able to use the site's archive to read their favorite columnists including Walter S. Mossberg's "Personal Technology," Sue Shellenbarger's "Work & Family," Tara Parker-Pope's "Health Journal," Pulitzer Prize winner Joe Morgenstern's "Film Review," John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter's popular "Tastings" and Terri Cullen's "Fiscally Fit," among others.
Charles Schwab, Hewlett-Packard and Sprint will sponsor different days of the Open House. Each sponsor will own most of the site's impressions that day and will be integrated into the Open House promotional advertising, which includes ads in The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch and Barron's.

New York Event May 1
The Wall Street Journal Online will go live from Times Square in New York City with a mobile newsroom to celebrate its 10th anniversary. "Newsies" will be handing out free coupons for online subscriptions and encouraging pedestrians to visit WSJ.com during its Open House. Gordon Crovitz, publisher of The Wall Street Journal, will join the team and distribute tote bags commemorating the anniversary, with a free copy of the Journal and a short-term trial offer to the print and online Journals. Terri Cullen, personal finance columnist of WSJ.com and Jason Fry, assistant managing editor of WSJ.com will also be in Times Square to help morning commuters and pedestrians visit the mobile office and participate in the Newshound quiz.
San Francisco Event May 2
Commuters are invited to "Get on the Metro Line with The Wall Street Journal Online" at the Downtown Embarcadero MUNI Station, where WSJ.com will offer free transportation on the MUNI from 7 a.m. - 7p.m. The passes cover morning and evening commutes, as well as service to and from the Second and King Street Station for access to the Giants game. Commuters will receive a free tote bag commemorating the anniversary that includes a copy of the Journal and a trial offer for the print and online Journals.
NASDAQ Bell Ringing
On Thursday, May 4, at 4p.m. ET, Gordon Crovitz, publisher, of The Wall Street Journal, will ring the NASDAQ Stock Market closing bell.
