Charys Holding Company, Inc. Subsidiary Viasys Services, Inc. Announces Completion and Acceptance of Metro-Wide Mobile Mesh Broadband System in Medford, Oregon

Posted on: Monday, 1 May 2006, 12:00 CDT

ATLANTA, May 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Viasys Services, Inc., a wholly- owned subsidiary of Charys Holding Company, Inc. ("Charys") (BULLETIN BOARD: CHYS.OB) , announced completion and acceptance of Phase II of the Medford, Oregon city-wide Mobile Mesh Broadband System. The project provides the city of Medford with a metropolitan area mobile broadband system for use by Police and Fire Rescue as well as other city agencies. The new Phase will serve to expand upon the original deployment, which was completed in 2004 and included approximately 21 square miles of coverage.

"Our vision was high-speed, city-wide wireless coverage. We wanted our police to have critical information before they arrived on scene and our fire fighters to have building pre-plans accessed and ready as they responded to an emergency," said Medford Systems Administrator Steve Edwards. "This was accomplished with our partnership with Viasys and their wireless team."

The initial deployment was hailed as an industry landmark. It was the first city-wide mobile broadband deployment of any substantial size and validated the mesh networking concept on wide-area scope. Phase II is also important because it confirms the long-standing theory of "scaling-out" or adding nodes for coverage and capacity.

"Phase II was always a consideration, even when Phase I was just getting off the ground," said Rick Rotondo, Director of Marketing for Motorola's Mesh Networking Product Group. "So the original system was designed from the start to accommodate seamless system growth. This demonstrates that with the right equipment, design and engineering, high-performance mesh systems can be deployed to meet initial requirements, then seamlessly expanded as those needs grow."

"I am very proud of this particular network and it was our pleasure to work with such a technically savvy and forward-looking partner in the city of Medford," commented Viasys General Manager Terrell Brown. "This system most certainly proved to the marketplace that meshing technology is viable and that municipalities can provide the most advanced public safety methods to their residents in cost-effective and fair manner."
