Phoenix Technologies, Ltd. Announces Focused Imaging Software
Posted on: Monday, 1 May 2006, 15:00 CDT
Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:PTEC) today announced ImageCast 6(TM), the newest version of the company's popular imaging and deployment software. ImageCast 6, which is available immediately through the reseller channel, reduces the time and resources needed to image and deploy new desktop or notebook computers across multiple platforms or return older machines back to corporate security and compliance standards.
ImageCast 6 has been updated with enhanced speed and efficiency attributes - it allows for faster imaging via standalone image deployments for individual machines or multicast deployments for easy distribution of images to many clients at once, and includes powerful and flexible customization of standard-system images to support end user usage, network and location requirements. And while competing imaging products still use antiquated DOS-based clients for deployment, which hardware vendors are no longer supporting, ImageCast 6 uses a modern, 32-bit, multi-tasking, multi-threaded, Linux-based client.
"IDC's System Management Software Strategies Survey noted IT departments are increasingly interested in ITIL and other system maturity models" said Fred Broussard, research manager, PC and Device Management Software, at IDC. "Software solutions like ImageCast 6 that simplify processes or eliminate steps in a software deployment process are going to be very helpful to IT departments moving forward."
Competitive landscape drives need for focused imaging application
The current competitive market for imaging and deployment software has shifted in recent years. Traditional sources have shifted away from offering standalone imaging solutions and have opted to sell management suites which include an imaging application. This process means that customers are paying more than they should for products they don't necessarily need or want.
ImageCast 6, on the other hand, is focused solely on imaging and application distribution. Buyers pay a lower cost for the product they need. Additionally, when tested side-by-side on a standard computing platform, independent laboratory testing shows that ImageCast 6 performs 20 - 30 percent faster than competing software.
"Endpoint security begins with the proper deployment of corporate applications, which is why ImageCast 6 is so critical" said Kort van Bronkhorst, vice president, Corporate Marketing, at Phoenix Technologies. "ImageCast 6 gives our customers a simple way to deploy machines across an organization and the assurance that corporate security and configuration settings are in place from day one."
Pricing and Availability
ImageCast 6 is available through resellers immediately. MSRP is $39.99 with discounts for volume purchases. Licensing for both enterprise and government IT departments, and system builders and manufacturers is available. ImageCast 6 is compatible with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
