Hewlett-Packard, Intel Deliver Large Parallel Computer System to Tokyo Univ.

Tokyo, March 1 (Jiji Press)--Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. and Intel Corp. Monday announced they have delivered a large-scale parallel computer system to University of Tokyo's Faculty of Engineering for nanotechnology researches.
The system, which consists of 68 Hewlett-Packard personal computers, each equipped with two Intel-made 64-bit Itanium 2 microprocessors, is one of the largest computer systems in Japan for research purposes.
The system will start operating before the end of this month, the companies said.
The computer system will be used for simulating characteristics of new materials to be developed by using nanotechnology.END
