Dell Offers End-to-End Storage Solution Featuring New Arrays, Global Services and Build-to-Order Capabilities; Midrange Arrays Deliver Double Capacity and Dramatically Increased Performance
Posted on: Monday, 8 May 2006, 09:09 CDT
Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) today announced 4-gigabit Dell/EMC CX midrange storage systems with global services and build-to-order capabilities designed to reduce deployment time and cost.
These new products are tested and validated on Dell enterprise systems for applications such as Oracle(R) databases, Microsoft(R) SQL Server and Exchange Server.
"Dell is focused on speeding customer technology deployment and reducing integration complexity," said Darren Thomas, general manager, enterprise storage and services, Dell Product Group. "This integrated solution, featuring arrays with the new UltraScale architecture and high-performance, SAN-ready servers, is designed to support customers' mission-critical environments and offer long-term investment protection."
To meet customers' unrelenting data storage needs, the new Dell/EMC CX UltraScale series provides an end-to-end 4-gigabit architecture, delivering double the storage capacity and dramatically increased performance over the previous Dell/EMC CX series. The new UltraScale series includes the Dell/EMC CX3-20, CX3-40 and CX3-80. The CX3-80 can support up to 480 drives, equaling 239 terabytes and up to 256 high-availability hosts. In addition, these products will support Fibre Channel and iSCSI(1) (Internet small computer systems interface), protocols. For storage expansion, Dell is offering the DAE4P, a 4-gigabit expansion enclosure.
Using build-to-order factory capabilities, customers can custom-order SAN-ready Dell(TM) PowerEdge(TM) Servers with a broad range of host bus adapter (HBA) cards factory installed and tested, minimizing several steps in SAN installation.
To help maximize customers' technology investments, Dell continues to offer multi-tiered services. Today Dell is extending that support by delivering SAN maintenance services worldwide, offering customers even more investment protection. This service, Dell/EMC Maintenance, is designed to offer customers improved availability and performance, while keeping their SAN up-to-date.
Today's announcement builds on the success of the Dell/EMC strategic alliance spanning nearly five years. Since the relationship started, Dell and EMC have shared a common vision for making storage easy and affordable for businesses of all sizes. Using this approach, the two companies have won almost 15,000 new customers worldwide.
