May 9--BRADENTON -- Last night, the school board told its staff to work with the county and find a resolution on a proposed Caruso Road site for a Manatee Technical Institute campus.
This morning, the county did likewise -- told staff to work with the school district to resolve MTI-site issues such as having an industrial-skills school near a residential neighborhood, and having increased traffic.
One thing is certain: The sides have until June 26 to decide to go ahead on the site -- or the Manatee County School District will go it alone without Manatee County's blessing.
In the county commission meeting this morning, the decision was unanimous to enter disagreement resolution over the MTI site.
Said Commissioner Joe McClash: "There are a lot of issues here. We just need to move forward with the dispute resolution process. As a high-profile issue, I don't feel right delegating this solely to the county administrator. I'd rather have an open process."
In taking action this morning, the commissioners authorized County Administrator Ernie Padgett to enter talks with schools Superintendent Roger Dearing on the subject.
Also, commissioners told staff to address all the concerns and questions identified in previous hearings.
