Vitesse Launches Signal Integrity and Ethernet Switching Seminars for Design Engineers; Technical Sessions Provide Best Practice Tools and Techniques for Designing High Speed Communication Systems

Posted on: Wednesday, 10 May 2006, 09:08 CDT

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq:VTSS) today announced the company will host a series of technology seminars to educate design engineers on best practices to preserve signal integrity when designing high speed Ethernet, networking and data communication systems. In these sessions the company's technology experts will demonstrate how to shorten product development cycles by using proven, high-speed design techniques to maintain signal integrity through printed circuit boards, backplanes and copper interconnect media. The seminar series will be offered in leading technology locations worldwide including Tel Aviv, Silicon Valley, Denver, Boston, Beijing and other selected cities.

"To support and drive their advanced product offerings, design engineers around the globe need access to the innovative methodologies and best practices that will allow them to architect systems that can both leverage and integrate high-speed connectivity without compromising signal integrity," said Gary McCormack, director of interconnect products for Vitesse. "Our technology leadership in the areas of Gigabit Ethernet, Networking, and Storage enables Vitesse to deliver those critical tools to design engineers around the world."

Vitesse Signal Integrity and Ethernet Switching Seminars

Vitesse's Signal Integrity and Ethernet Switching seminars are designed to meet the needs of Networking, Ethernet, Video and Storage system design engineers and system architects. The half-day technical sessions focus on high-speed signal integrity performance across printed circuit boards (PCBs), backplanes and copper-based cabling.

The seminars provide engineers with proven guidelines, tools, techniques and products needed to address signal integrity issues in next generation systems. Topics include an overview of issues impacting signal integrity as signals move beyond the 1Gb/s speeds common in today's systems. Tools and methods presented in the technology sessions are aimed at helping designers reach speeds in the 3Gb/s to 11Gb/s range without the need for new chassis design or PCB material. Engineering methods highlighted include board design and layout guidelines to address signal integrity issues. The session also covers tips for selecting appropriate silicon to maximize signal integrity. The Ethernet Switching discussion covers Vitesse Ethernet Switch and PHY solutions, documentation, and software/hardware design tools.

The Signal Integrity seminars leverage recently introduced Vitesse products that have been designed to facilitate high speed switching and signal equalization for transmitting multi-gigabit data signals across printed circuit boards, through backplane connectors and over copper cabling. Vitesse Signal Integrity technology includes a comprehensive, industry-leading portfolio of crosspoint and signal conditioner integrated circuit (IC) products operating from DC up to 11 Gb/s. The latest product offerings feature Vitesse's unique PixEQ(TM) technology that advances high-speed signal integrity performance. PixEQ(TM) implements the industry's first programmable, dual decay technology with breakthrough ability to compensate for multiple impairments in a signal path with a single IC.

The initial seminar will take place May 23 in Tel Aviv at the Dan Accadia Hotel at 9:00 a.m. To register contact Vitesse partner and event host Phoenix Technologies, Ltd at info@phnx.co.il or +1 972-9-7644800. All seminars are free to design engineer professionals.

About Vitesse World Class Signal Integrity Solutions

Vitesse was first to introduce integrated signal equalization in crosspoints switches and now has nearly a decade of successful product developments with dozens of products in production. Vitesse's latest generation PixEQ technology enables a new level of signal integrity engineering with the introduction of dual time constant equalization. Dual time constant equalization allows the system designer to independently compensate for multiple impairments in the signal path, such as connectors and cabling or skin effect and dielectric losses in PCB traces. Dual time constant equalization also provides a significantly wider compensation range so that a single device can be used in multiple applications, from PCB traces to backplanes to copper cabling.
