ATLANTA, March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Semiconductor Corporation will feature its newest technologies for mobile phones at the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) show in Atlanta, Georgia, which runs from March 22-24.
National is a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal technologies in the global $20 billion (1) market for semiconductors used in cell phones. The company's products enable the world's major manufacturers to design cell phones with longer better battery life, sharp, crisp display images, smaller form factors, power-efficient lighting solutions and advanced user interfaces.
At CTIA, National will showcase a complete portfolio of analog solutions for cell phone makers, including:
-- Power Management: National's power solutions extend from
performance-leading single power converters to complete system-level
products. Using National's PowerWise(TM) technology and ARM's
Intelligent Energy Manager(TM) hardware/software solution, cell phone
makers can dramatically increase the features and functionality of
their handsets while maintaining the same size, weight and battery life.
-- Lighting solutions: White LED drivers from National are used to
backlight 65 percent of the color-screen phone handsets worldwide. At
CTIA, National will demonstrate the industry's most comprehensive
portfolio of lighting products. The demonstration will highlight
National's latest product, the LM2796 dual-display white LED driver,
which is ideal for lighting up to two displays plus a keypad. In
addition, National will feature lighting management units, RGB fun
lighting drivers and camera-phone flash drivers.
-- Audio amplifiers: With a portfolio of more than 100 products and
growing, National's Boomer(R) audio products are the industry's most
recognized name in amplifiers and are used by nearly every cell phone
maker in the world. At CTIA, National will feature its latest 3-D
stereo audio products, drivers for new speaker technologies, advanced
audio subsystems and high-efficiency amplifiers.
-- Mobile Pixel Link (MPL): At CTIA, National will demo its LM2501 camera
interface, a new product that uses power-saving Mobile Pixel Link
technology. This new technology also enables manufacturers to reduce
the number of wires needed for a camera phone from 12 to only three.
MPL products allow handset manufacturers to reduce system costs,
especially on expensive flex cables and reduced IC package and
connector sizes, while improving overall reliability.
-- Phase-locked loops (PLL) and Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO):
These critical ICs keep a phone locked on to a cellular signal for
strong, clear reception. National's PLLatinum(TM) family of PLLs will
be used in a large percentage of the 500 million cell phones sold
worldwide this year. At CTIA National will highlight the LMX2604, the
first member of a new family of voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs).
This new chip is the industry's only stand-alone, monolithic VCO with
electrical performance suitable for mobile handsets and features a
footprint 80 percent smaller than alternative solutions.
-- Amp-in-a-Mic: Another first in consumer microphone electronics --
National technologies enable digital voice quality directly inside
electret condenser microphones (ECMs). Ideal for handsets and headsets,
National will demo its "amp-in-a-mic" products that improve performance
and save board space.
