NEC and HP Expand Operational Management Alliance
TOKYO and NEW YORK, March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — NEC Corporation and Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd. today announced the expansion of their operational management alliance to provide each company with the rights to OEM each other’s operational management solutions. The alliance expansion will enhance NEC and HP’s collaboration to provide common solutions to customers who are globally undertaking various lines of businesses, aiming for global leadership within the IT market. This agreement represents NEC’s first software OEM supply to HP.
IT systems play an important role for streamlining businesses and organizations and are positioned at the core of an enterprise. IT systems are important to any business activity and enterprises need operation management for 24×7 support. In the ever-changing economic climate, more flexible and cost-effective systems are required and migration from mainframe to open systems is being implemented aggressively.
Until now NEC and HP have offered products and solutions to complement each other globally and support open-system mission-critical solutions. Additionally, NEC currently OEMs HP’s management software HP OpenView. Since the need for operational management solutions has increased, HP and NEC have agreed to expand their current alliance. The expanded alliance includes the following.
* NEC will provide HP with the rights to OEM its job management tool,
WebSAM JobCenter. This is the first time that NEC supplies its software
to HP on an OEM basis. With NEC’s WebSAM JobCenter, HP will have the
capabilities to provide customers with a job management tool to migrate
from a mainframe to an open system environment. HP will sell it in Japan
market, where the needs for job management solution are currently very
high.
* HP will provide NEC with the rights to OEM its ITIL compliant IT service
management tool, HP OpenView Service Desk. The ITIL process is an
important standard that is expected to expand within Japan in the near
future. With the rights to OEM the HP OpenView Service Desk solution,
NEC will have the capabilities to provide customers with an automatic
management tool for service levels based on ITIL.
* NEC and HP will jointly develop operational management tools.
Specifically, both companies will implement GUI integration and full
synchronization for WebSAM MC/Operations and HP OpenView Operations to
provide customers with a firm system operational management foundation.
This will enhance HP and NEC’s capabilities and allow both companies to
examine the technical standardization, cooperate on a development and
shorten time-to-market on future solutions.
* NEC and HP will jointly conduct promotional activities for the IT market
in Japan. Specifically, both companies will jointly run advertisement
campaigns and present and organize exhibitions, events and seminars.
Together NEC and HP will continue to provide global customers with their common operational management solutions.
