SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a leading supplier of advanced devices for wireless communications applications, today introduced three single-serial-input Phase Locked Loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers featuring very low phase noise.
The new MB15E05SR operates at up to 2.0 GHz using a supply voltage of 2.7V to 5V, and an ultra-low-power supply current of 7.0 mA at Vcc=Vp=3.75 volts. The new MB15E07SR has a 2.5 GHz (maximum) prescaler, with a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5V, and a power-supply current of just 7.2 mA at Vcc=Vp=3.75 volts. Designed for Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) base stations and other wireless and Personal Communications Services (PCS) applications, the two PLLs also incorporate a selectable charge pump that delivers a well-balanced output current of between +/-1.0 mA and +/- 4.0 mA.
FMA also introduced the MB15E06SR, another single-serial-input PLL synthesizer with a 3.0 GHz prescaler designed for high-frequency wireless systems, such as electronic toll-collection systems. The product's supply voltage ranges from 2.7 V to 4.0 V, and its typical power supply current is 8.0 mA at Vcc=Vp=3.0 volts.
"This set of single serial-input PLLs significantly reduces phase noise, a fundamental requirement in GSM, PCS and high-frequency wireless applications," said Keith Horn, vice president of marketing, Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "The PLLs are available in the small form factor required by the new generation of wireless system designs, and they operate on the absolute minimum power. We continue to enhance and refine our PLL products to meet the power, noise and space requirements of our customers."
All three new PLL ICs exhibit a normalized noise floor of -218dBc/Hz or better, and incorporate power-savings functions that reduce supply current to 0.1 microamp in power-saving mode. Each new PLL is pin-compatible with previous versions, so customers can easily upgrade existing designs.
"A separate charge pump power supply pin and the ability to go as high as 5.5V makes these new PLL ICs ideal for a broad range of wireless applications requiring a wide tuning range," said Stephanos Thomopoulos, FMA's marketing manager for wireless ASSPs and RFICs.
Pricing and Availability
All three new PLL synthesizers are available in 16-pin plastic TSSOP and 16-pad plastic BCC packages. Prices begin at $1.21 each in 1,000-unit quantities. To help customers complete performance evaluation, optimization and system design, Fujitsu offers development kits.
