FilmLoop Expands Live Direct-to-Desktop eBay Listings
Posted on: Monday, 15 May 2006, 09:00 CDT
FilmLoop, Inc., a provider of free software that enables people and businesses to broadcast, find, and share digital images, today announced that it has created live Direct-to-Desktop (D2D) listings for some of eBay's most popular categories. FilmLoop's D2D listings are linked directly from the eBay Web site and provide eBay community members an easy and direct way to browse new listings in some of the hottest eBay categories, search for their favorite items, and shop directly from the desktop. FilmLoop's D2D listings can be viewed at http://ebay.filmloop.com.
The new FilmLoop D2D listings implementation is an extension of a successful pilot program launched in 2005 by FilmLoop for eBay Motors to leverage FilmLoop's photocasting technology for collector car categories. With FilmLoop's new D2D Web pages, eBay members can now browse, search, and shop for collectibles, antiques, art, clothing, shoes, accessories, home and garden, jewelry and watches, toys, hobbies and more in a unique moving "Loop" on the Web page. A Loop is a dynamic string of images that scroll continuously across a user's computer screen or Web page. Loops make it easy for eBay buyers to quickly browse many listings at once.
"The expansion of the FilmLoop D2D product beyond eBay Motors reflects photocasting's tremendous commercial power," said Kyle Mashima, CEO and co-founder of FilmLoop. "With added categories and search and browsing features, we're extremely proud to provide eBay community members with a way to monitor the most up to date listings and shop directly from the desktop."
Loops Offer eBay Members a Unique Web Based Browsing Experience
As a member of the eBay Developers Program, FilmLoop is able to display Loops of images from eBay listings that automatically update as new listings are generated. The D2D Loops provide eBay buyers with a way to quickly browse the most recent additions to some of the hottest eBay categories and see what's for sale. Photos of new items arrive as soon as they come up for sale and clicking on an item takes you directly to the eBay listing page.
The D2D pages also enable eBay buyers to run a specific search for their favorite items or from their favorite seller, and create a personalized Loop of the latest listings in this category. Members can define the search by minimum and maximum price, seller name or ID, and category. For eBay sellers, this search capability provides a great way to build a store Loop of all of their listings and post the Loop on their store Web page for their favorite buyers to watch on their desktop.
"FilmLoop is not just a photo sharing tool -- it's also a way for consumers to utilize digital images for commercial purposes," said Ron Glaz, digital imaging analyst from IDC. "FilmLoop is providing eBay users with a way to get more from the eBay experience. This is the next generation of online shopping."
Browse, Search, and Shop From the Desktop
By clicking on the "Open" button on the D2D Web pages, eBay members can also open the eBay Loops directly on their desktop. Desktop Loops stay up-to-date with new items, and eBay members can closely monitor their favorite listings and shop directly from their desktop.
Whenever new items come up for sale on eBay, buyers are immediately notified of the new listings with a discrete desktop alert in the toolbar. Buyers can set the new listings notifications in a variety of ways, depending on how often they wish to be alerted. Whenever an interesting item displays on their desktop Loop, a member can move their mouse over the image and learn the item make, item number, location, current price, number of bids, and listing end date. The member can then go directly to the eBay Web site to make a bid by clicking on the photo. In addition to a variety of ways to display the Loops on the desktop, eBay members can also set their favorite Loops as their screen saver.
"My listings will be on the cutting edge with the FilmLoop technology, providing a glimpse inside my eBay store and affording my customer a way of monitoring listings in a whole new way," said eBay Powerseller Stephanie Inge, aka StephinTexas. "With its easy to use interface and search technology, potential customers will be able to search more easily through all of the eBay categories to find what they're looking for. This will increase customer visits to my site and translate into increased sales."
