Cendura Adds New IT Service Management Features, Software Blueprints and Enterprise Integration to Cohesion

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 May 2006, 15:05 CDT

Cohesion 4.0 took systems management to a whole new level -- aggregating all server and software configuration settings into an integrated, single pane of glass that allows systems managers to use its advanced automation capabilities to access, control and manage even the most complicated server, software and IT services configurations. Today, Cendura released Cohesion 4.1 -- further improving IT service management, adding new blueprints, and streamlining integration with a SDK for Java and Web Services.

"Approximately sixty percent of availability and performance errors are due to faulty IT configurations," said Andi Mann, senior analyst for Enterprise Management Associates (EMA). "Changes are routine in IT operations and once you understand what's going on in your environment, you are in a better position to improve compliance, reduce time spent on tracking down problems, and reduce costs. In short, the need for automated configuration management has never been greater."

Cohesion 4.1 includes many new capabilities to enhance data center management and automation including:

Improved IT Service Management

-- Ad-Hoc IT Service Creation: Instance-based service creation simplifies the creation and management of IT services by allowing you to easily select and group network devices, services and the software components that make up your services. -- Improved Snapshot Management: By providing you with the ability to manage configuration snapshots for services, networking devices, and services, Cendura's improved Snapshot Management allows you to designate snapshots as "gold" or "baseline." You can use them in the future as reference snapshots in change detection or server comparison.

Enterprise Integration

-- Cohesion SDK: Cohesion SDK provides Web services and JAVA API's to make it easier to integrate with other systems management applications to extract server, software or IT service configuration information. -- Cohesion Bridget to AlterPoint Device Authority: This Bridge allows you to import network devices that are discovered by Device Authority into Cohesion. -- Server Import/Export: With Cohesion's server import capabilities, you can import a group of services from an Excel, SML or SCV formatted file into Cohesion Server Management views. In addition, you can export servers discovered and managed by Cohesion into Excel, XML or CSV formatted files.

New Software Support

Cohesion 4.1 includes new Blueprints designed to discover and manage the configuration of:

-- Operation systems: SUSE, Free BSD -- Databases: MySQL, Oracle 10g (update), Adaptive Server 11.5 -- Messaging Systems: IBM Websphere MQ6, MQ Manager 6, MQ Data 6, MQ Queue Manager 6 -- Enterprise Applications: Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 -- Application Servers: Microsoft .Net Framework -- Cluster Servers: Microsoft Cluster Server
