Echoworx Delivers a Logical Extension to Microsoft Hosted Exchange Services
Posted on: Wednesday, 17 May 2006, 09:04 CDT
TORONTO, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Echoworx Corporation, a leading provider of security software products for electronic communications, today announced its commitment to working closely with Microsoft to provide email encryption as a natural extension to Microsoft Hosted Exchange. Echoworx is already working with leading Hosted Exchange service providers like USA.NET, expanding their product portfolio to include Echoworx Secure Mail, a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) based email encryption service that complements their services. Hosted Exchange continues to grow consistently, and has demonstrated 115% growth within the last 12 months, illustrating the importance of offering new value added security services to subscribers.
Echoworx has embraced Microsoft technology, as a member of the Secure IT Alliance, and has recently joined an exclusive group of trusted root certificate authorities to be recognized by Microsoft. Echoworx's root certificate, which authenticates all X509 digital certificates issued to Secure Mail subscribers, is one of a small number of root certificates accepted for distribution to everyone using Windows XP and Windows 2000 enabled PCs. Echoworx has achieved Microsoft's recognition by working with Microsoft and Deloitte and Touche to comply with strict security and audit requirements under this Program.
"We chose Echoworx's encryption and digital certificate solution because it is an industry trusted PKI and S/MIME based email encryption solution, and a fully managed service that requires no investment in infrastructure or administration resources -- key selling points in the small to mid-sized marketplace," said David Ramon, president and CEO of USA.NET. "This is truly the first mainstream subscription-based email encryption product that allows any business using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express to protect the confidentiality of information sent via email and assist in compliance with privacy legislation. As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Hosted Exchange and SAS 70 Type II Certified, we're pleased to be the first Messaging Service Provider to offer this critical security service."
"It's time that everyone begin to protect the privacy of their email. Working with Microsoft is another step in fulfilling our objective of having the more than 1 billion email users globally use our technology whenever they send sensitive information across the Internet," said Michael Ginsberg, President and CEO at Echoworx. "Echoworx Secure Mail gives Microsoft the opportunity to offer new value added email encryption services to their Hosted Exchange Partners whether these partners wish to invest in the Echoworx Secure Mail technology, or opt to partner with one of Echoworx's growing list of Service Providers."
Echoworx Secure Mail is a white-label product offered by Service Providers, including Hosted Exchange Partners, on a monthly subscription basis. Secure Mail subscribers can quickly and easily sign up for the service and be sending encrypted email in minutes, with no capital expenditures or ongoing administration costs. Subscribers need not change their email address, nor be a subscriber to the Service Providers DSL or email services. To sign up for the service, a simple plug-in is downloaded for Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express that provides the encryption function right on the desktop. A new "Secure" button will appear in the compose screen and the subscriber can send encrypted email messages to anyone, including non-subscribers of the service. All of the details relating to PKI credentials and infrastructure are completely hidden from end users.
