Lucent Technologies today received a 2006 InfoVision Award from the International Engineering Consortium for the best metro network technology or service of the year. The award, which recognized the Lucent Multimedia Access Platform, was presented at the Broadband World Forum 2006 trade show in Hong Kong.
Only those products that were commercially announced or in deployment within the Asia-Pacific region prior to the show were eligible for an InfoVision Award. A committee composed of industry experts from vendor companies, service providers and industry associations judged the submissions.
The Lucent Multimedia Access Platform is a next generation broadband access platform designed to help service providers profitably deliver IPTV and IP multimedia services to the mass market, across copper, fiber and/or wireless networks, reducing both capital and operational costs.
"This is hard-won recognition for our state-of-the art broadband access and IPTV platform," said Rob Piconi, vice president and general manager, Broadband Solutions, Lucent Technologies. "We're particularly proud that, going forward, this IMS-capable platform will enable- operators to seamlessly blend voice, data, video, and mobility services to suit their customers' lifestyle--wherever they may be--with end-to-end quality of service."
The Lucent Multimedia Access Platform is a pure IP/Ethernet platform, built on Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) hardware and Linux software. It can help service providers reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market with new features and capabilities compared to proprietary systems. Designed to deliver up to 10 gigabits per second of flexible, high-volume services from every slot, it supports DSL, VoIP, fiber to the premise (FTTP) and WiMAX wireless broadband in a single chassis. A unique SmartPON(TM) module, developed by Bell Labs, Lucent's R&D organization, enables the Lucent Multimedia Access Platform to support both EPON and GPON from a single chassis.
"This award reflects on Lucent's and Bell Labs' focus on developing and introducing products that meet the sophisticated demands of the Asia Pacific market," said Bart Vogel, president of Lucent Technologies Asia Pacific. "Having the right access products to deliver leading-edge applications in a blended manner is key for service provider success in Asia."
