RADIXS Aims to Transform Mobile Computing for Businesses and Consumers Worldwide Via New Wireless Operating System

SINGAPORE, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- RADIXS, an innovative wireless solutions company, today announced the United States launch of RADIXS MXI (Motion eXperience Interface), the world's first universal mobile operating system that brings a true personal computer experience to handheld devices. RADIXS' MXI is unlike any other mobile OS in its ability to enable existing, full-fledged Windows, Linux and Java-based desktop and mobile software, 32-bit video games normally played on consoles and full graphical versions of websites to look and feel exactly the same on a handheld mobile device as they do on a PC -- without any redevelopment. RADIXS also announced a strategic alliance with Sun Microsystems, Inc. through which the Sun StarOffice application suite will be mobilized and StarOffice 7 will become the first desktop application to be deployed in its entirety on mobile devices. RADIXS, currently in discussions with U.S.-based wireless carriers and a global leader in mobile device manufacturing, expects MXI-enabled applications to become available in the United States within the next one to two quarters.
"Sun's strategic alliance with RADIXS opens new opportunities for users to experience our broad array of software technologies on mobile devices," said Barbara Kay, Sun's director of marketing, mobility with security. "StarOffice 7 will be the first full-functional office productivity suite made available on RADIXS' mobile devices along with the many Java applications on the market."
MXI - A Revolutionary Approach to Mobile Computing
MXI enables desktop computing experiences and applications on mobile devices immediately without any redevelopment and with no compromises, unlike other existing operating systems that adopt a stripped-down architecture where users have access to only compromised and mobile content. In addition, because the Internet is mobilized in its full original form via HTML 4.0 and Flash, there is no need for stripped-down Web access. MXI in turn can deliver the world's largest library of combined legacy content and applications for mobile devices today.
MXI features a unique split processing architecture known as the Single Operating Layer Architecture (SOLA). RADIXS MXI is divided into two components -- the MXI Server and Platform. These components combine to establish a unified operating system across any wireless data network, while creating an ultimate experience combining real-time voice and data elements. "The mobile computing market will never reach its potential if business users and consumers alike find the overall experience uninspiring and sub-standard to that of the desktop," said RADIXS' Chief Executive Officer R. Chandrasekar. "It is our aim to deliver the 'holy grail of mobile computing' -- the same experience on a handheld mobile device as a user gets on a desktop computer or game console. We want to eliminate boring, 'lite' versions of mobile software and bring the real Internet to handheld devices. Before MXI, viewing websites on a mobile device was hard work and not very productive or fun. Most sites are not configured for viewing on wireless devices and now they don't have to be. Additionally, today's world of wireless gaming does not faintly resemble the PC experience or that of Microsoft's Xbox console or Sony's PlayStation 2. MXI brings an entirely new energy to wireless gaming and we expect gamers to be very excited at the next generation of competition."
Mobilizing Sun's StarOffice 7
RADIXS and Sun have teamed to enable the first mobile version of Sun's StarOffice 7 without any redevelopment, making it the first desktop application to be deployed in its entirety on mobile devices. MXI is also completely compatible with Java, and is capable of running Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) applications. MXI will be compatible with Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) by the end of March.
The StarOffice 7 Office Suite, with more than 33 million downloads, is the world's leading office productivity suite for Linux and the Solaris operating system. It is also the leading alternative office suite on the Windows platform. StarOffice software is affordable, easy to use and based on open standards. It offers word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database capabilities.
As part of the Sun-RADIXS strategic alliance, Sun will also work with RADIXS on joint marketing initiatives, as well as identifying and jointly engaging with mutual customer prospects. RADIXS will support Sun's Solaris x86 Operating System and will be integrating the MXI Server platform with the Sun Java System Messaging Server, Sun Java System Web Server and Sun Java System Application Server. "RADIXS has worked hard to enhance its core technology and now that it is ready, we have decided to adopt a strategic approach to partner with some of the biggest names globally," said RADIXS' Chandrasekar. "With our collaboration with Sun, we are working with a leader in network computing who has an extensive technology offering."
New Business Paradigm for Mobile Operators, Device Manufacturers and Content & Application Developers
Mobile operators can now use a single platform to mobilize and provision existing applications and content to consumers and enterprises with complete customization through a variety of payment models. The ability to dynamically customize services and content in accordance with user needs allows the operators to increase data revenue and margins per user. MXI's intuitive, easy to use interface and familiarity of applications allows for rapid adoption amongst users while giving mobile operators a cost-effective and highly scalable wireless architecture for the delivery of advanced data services. MXI stores data on central servers, encrypts data on the fly and sends out information only to authorized users. This ironclad digital rights management allows the provisioning of music and video on demand on mobile devices without the possibility of piracy or copyright violation.
Device manufacturers also benefit greatly from MXI. Instead of requiring a different OS for each and every device (mobile phone, gaming platform, PDA), original equipment manufacturers or original device manufacturers can use a single operating system to deliver new and unique handheld devices to consumers and enterprises. Manufacturers can create unique form factors for different market segments, with the MXI OS running in the background, customized for each purpose. MXI enables devices to play MP3s and solves the interoperability issues that currently face digital music players such as iPod and the Dell MJ by enabling format neutrality. MXI also is capable of video streaming, and can play MPEG, AVI, QuickTime and a host of other video formats on mobile devices without the need for external plug-ins and players. Additionally, MXI's unparalleled functionality also enables consumers to use one platform for all their gaming and entertainment needs.
Content and Application Developers (or Independent Software Vendors) can deploy their existing desktop applications written for other operating systems without any redevelopment on MXI OS, allowing them to leverage the large distribution channels of network operators. Users can then subscribe for these applications through their operators, and receive them instantly, on-demand.
