T-Systems Expands Reach of Global MPLS-based Network

Posted on: Monday, 15 March 2004, 06:00 CST

LISLE, Ill., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- T-Systems has extended the reach of its existing suite of MPLS-based data services across the U.S. through a Strategic Network Infrastructure Partnership agreement signed with Level 3 Communications, Inc. . Under the agreement, T-Systems is enhancing customer access to its global MPLS platform. The new partnership agreement enables T-Systems to provide its MPLS-based service portfolio to customers across the entire Level 3 fiber-optic network, which spans approximately 19,000 miles in North America and includes Points of Presence in 68 U.S. markets.

Built on its wholly owned and managed IP backbone, T-Systems' MPLS-based service portfolio offers optimized networking, while providing cost reductions, improved cost control, enhanced overall performance and efficiency. MPLS-based data services from T-Systems deliver flexibility to enterprise customers through services built to directly interface with a variety of legacy corporate data networking protocols, and services are cost efficient due to a usage-based billing structure. The new agreement with Level 3 now enables customers to profit from improved access to the existing T-Systems global MPLS platform.

MPLS technology (Multi-Protocol Label Switching), with its ability to dynamically prioritize data traffic based on transmission requirements and business objectives, is finding a fast-growing audience as companies increasingly adopt IP-based networking systems to meet the demands of bandwidth-hungry voice, data and multimedia applications. Other business factors driving demand for MPLS include increased globalization, corporate collaboration and concerns for network security.

T-Systems' MPLS data service allows corporate customers to use a complete solution for a variety of applications, including corporate wide area networking, voice applications, disaster recovery networks, data overflow networks, video distribution networks and IP backbones. The service is ideal for building multi-location, point-to-point networks that are scalable, secure, reliable and cost-effective.

As a wholesale provider of network services, Level 3 offers T-Systems a synergistic partnership that improves the reach of its existing global platform and enables T-Systems to deliver innovative IP services on a broader scale in one of the world's most competitive markets.
